We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Geyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
When I first started thinking about starting BETA FIT co., I had alllllll these ideas. Like so so many that I felt extremely overwhelmed. There wasn’t a “dip your toe in” to tests the waters, I dove right in, cannon ball style, without hesitation. It’s funny, because I don’t feel like I am succeeding at anything. I feel like I am prioritizing items or situations that are important to me, and in return it is a benefit of my business. When I find something I truly value, it’s a no question scenario. I have learned & am still learning so many things. I am still finding out a lot about what it means to be successful…but I have a long ways before I feel successful. What one business owner values is going to completely different from them next. It is all about what jives with you, what resonates with you. Here are a fews things that have been a complete game changer for me: A Power List. My list people out there know how good it feels to cross off those things on your to-do list. I feel the same exact way. I create a power list of 5 things that have to get done every day. These are 5 things are not negotiable. It doesn’t matter how late I have to stay up or how I need to change my schedule around, my Power List holds me accountable and keeps me true to my word. If you haven’t tried it, I totally recommend it. It was a complete game changer for me. Schedule. 100% scheduling my day. This, for one, helps me stay organized, but it also create boundaries & balance. It is super easy to do things when they come up, but that completely takes away from whatever moment you are being present in. I had to learn to create time and space for those things. This has helped me focus on my normal 7:30-3:30 job of being a teacher, devote time to my #TEAMBETA, and also have a fun, loving marriage. This helped me find balance in areas of my life that are important to me. Visualize. This is something I have been doing everyday. It can seriously be anywhere, which is totally awesome: on your drive to work, as you are sipping on that morning coffee, or whenever it comes up. I visualize where I see myself going, where I see this company going. I truly believe that there is power behind this technique. I actually use to do this when I ran track in college before a race, or before a big meet coming up & is something that has carried over to other aspects of my life. But this isn’t about wishing, right? It’s about how you are going to make it happen! Discipline. This guy is totally the driver for me. What I’ve realized most recently is if something is important to you, it is a priority. You value it, you believe it in. Sometimes it’s super hard to say no–not hitting the snooze, making time for intentional movement, no to a night out with the girls, going out for a friends birthday, opting for water rather than an alcoholic beverage, self-control– but if it is something that needs to get done, you find the discipline to do so. Integrity. It comes back to my why. I have my BETA FIT co. members think about their why. Now, I know losing 15lbs is a good why, but dig a little deeper. Most of the time, there is something more behind it. That’s where we anchor our why. I strive to be truthful with myself. For me, it is doing the right thing, putting in the work where & when it is needed. More so, keeping my word. The worst feeling is giving up on yourself, or lying to yourself. So yea, things might be tough, you might put yourself in a pickle – but we come back to our why. Continually learning. This is something that is just a part of who I am. I strive to be better than I was yesterday, but that comes with learning from both positive and negative experiences, and how to growth from them. I believe knowledge and education is such a powerful tool in the toolbox. You can literally take away something from any situation! So, always keep learning, you don’t have all the answers and that is okay! Learning from others before you, teach those who follow behind you. Attitude and Effort. Two items that we can control. If we just take a moment daily to put these things in check, I promise life will be a lot more awesome! I start my day with a mediation (even if its 5 minutes, it counts!) which has really helped me set the tone for my day. My mediations usually revolve around giving the best version of myself to the world. To walk with kindness in my heart, with gratitude for these amazing opportunities, and giving my best effort to myself and those around me. You should try it and see how your mindset shifts!

What should our readers know about your business?
BETA FIT co. came from this integration of the connection between my journey in my own personal struggles, my passion for fitness & hiking, and my MN roots. Any health or fitness goal can feel like a never ending hike and I found myself stuck a few years ago. To give you some insight, I have always been the tom-boy athletic girl. I played sports since I was a little girl, in high school, and then ran track for the University of Minnesota in college. Truthfully, sports were my life. I didn’t know my identity aside from sports. I moved away from everything I knew after college. As much as I couldn’t wait to move away from home, I was terrified. I found myself lost, scared, hurting. I developed this really toxic relationship with myself and started to use exercise as a punishment. Then, I literally was the textbook definition of anorexia, bulimia, and restrictive eating. I remember the first time I said I have an eating disorder outloud –  HATING myself for it. I always told myself I can stop whenever I want. I am fine — totally not true. I hid my eating disorder for years. I was crumbling in fear, anxiousness, depression, and disappointment. And truthfully, I was killing myself slowly. There comes to a point where you just have had enough. That’s when I realized, I have a choice. I can take the easy way out and regret it down the road, wishing I would have started soon or I can face my own demons & work my butt off to get better. BETA refers to giving specific advice or instruction on a route, to provide education to others on how to achieve that climb. My BETA started slowly. There were ebs & flows — good days and terrible effin days. Doubts, frustrations, excuses. I had them all. Some days I didn’t know if I could do it. I understand it can be really freaking tough, I understand the defeat of giving up on yourself, I feel in my bones what disappointment is like. But it was my journey to explore, mine to achieve. And yours is too. I understand our pasts may or may not align. We all have our own narrative, past or present —  but we all have a choice. This is the backbone of BETA. This is why I created BETA FIT co. I don’t just focus on fitness, I approach overall health and wellness too. Because at the end of the day, we are the ones who look in the mirror and decide if you’re happy with that person staring back at you.  We all have our own mountain to climb. As we slowly work through the layers, our path becomes a little bit clearer.  Your BETA is unique to wherever you find yourself in this journey. You will find the strength to climb to the top of your mountain!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
1. Golden Saigon – Aurora. My FAV restaurant PERIOD. Homemade, fresh, and the best tasting food! When you eat there, it is an experience. The customer service, the food, ambiance, good vibes – they make us feel like family! Anytime we have people in town, we take them here. 2. Garden of the Gods (during the week) – the structures here are breathtaking and you have an awesome view of Pike’s Peak in the background. You can walk around the park, go for a hike, or even a trail run. You also can shimmy on over to Manitou Springs to check out local shops, breweries, restaurants, or even run up the Incline for more activity! 3. Pagosa Hot Springs – Colorado is known for it’s hot springs but this one, in my opinion takes the cake! It is the world’s deepest geothermal hot spring. You can soak for the day, if you live nearby otherwise they have a hotel you can stay at. My favorite time of the year to go is during the winter. It’s magical! 4. Since my husband and I are hikers – get outside and hike! Literally our backyard is a playground. There are so many options for all levels! There are a couple spots close to Denver – St. Mary’s Glacier or Loveland Pass (13ers) or you can check out 1 of Colorado’s 58 14ers. I recommend doing your research first, as all 14ers are NOT created equal. Research, pack layers, fluids, snacks, sunscreen, and respect the mountain. 5. Colorado has a ton of breweries, but my favorite – Dry Dock located in Aurora. Good vibes and great beer. My go to is the Hopriocot – a half & half mix of their Apricot blonde with Hop Abomination IPA. So good! 6. My favorite mountain town(s) – Buena Vista & Salida. Escape the fast pace lifestyle for a weekend or even a day trip to this low key place. They have SO many things to do there – hiking, road or mountain biking, camping, rafting, hot springs, cute restaurants and shops at either location downtown. Make sure you stop at Brown Dog Coffee Company (lucky for you they have two locations, one in BV and one in Salida) for their notorious Lavender/Vanilla Latte. Only a 2.5 hour drive from Denver.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
SO many people! First and foremost, my husband, Cody Yohn. He has always been my rock, my biggest supporter. He’s my person that loves me at my worst and loves me at my best while continually to pushes me to be my best, and to give my best. He is an small business, Colorado entrepreneur himself & his experience and guidance has really helped me make my business come to fruition! Need vehicle, commercial, or resident window tint? Reach out to High Altitude Tint! My family. This goes without saying, but the people who still love you after you’re bad shit crazy – well that means something! These guys have my back no matter what adventure I dive into. My parents especially, they refer to me as their wild child, but love and support me no matter where I am off to next. Janelle Holter. My first friend I made when I moved to Colorado. Midwest souls making it out in the Colorado, mountain life together. This lady has inspired me to be true to myself and keep moving forwards with any goal or aspiration. A genuine, true soul that fuels my energy. She also owns her own company here in Colorado, TVLA Yoga. Check them out! Ian Palombo – Ian was my therapist who helped me gained back my life while I was struggling with my eating disorder. He helped me battle the demons and opened my mind and heart. Anyone who is battling their fight, you do not have to do it alone. You can reach Ian and his team at Mind Body Sport, LLC – Denver Mental Health Collective in Denver. 1st Phorm – Their mission is to education and to help people change their lives. It’s a people helping people company – I truly mean that! I joined their team in August 2018. I truly did not know what I was getting myself into but without their education, continuous support & encouragement, and coaches, I would not be where I am today. Shout out to my coach, Paula Ciarniello & Jay Algiere. If you have been on this journey with me – you know you’ve made a difference in my life! Thank you to all who believe, support, and inspire my daily.
