We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Salas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, do you have some perspective or insight you can share with us on the question of when someone should give up versus when they should keep going?
It’s very easy to get down on myself and want to give up when I have a slow week, but the thing that keeps me going is knowing my daughter is watching me. Yes she is still little and doesn’t understand it now, but I want to build something that will make her proud of her mom when she is old enough to understand. Everything I do is for her. I keep pushing and grinding every single day to give her what she deserves, and that’s the best motivation.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been in the beauty industry for almost 10 years and finally ventured out on my own. The main thing holding me back was the unknown. I’m very much a type A personality, so I like to research, know statistics, etc. So of course the risk of failure is terrifying and the main thing that held me back. The biggest thing that helped me overcome it was the unknown drives me crazy. I didn’t want to be 70 and wondering what if I would have invested in myself and took the chance. What’s the worst that can happen? I fail. At least I would know that I tried and gave it my all. One of my main passions of being in the industry is helping others believe in themselves and being the person to always hype them up. Women empowering women is an amazingly beautiful thing. I needed that push to become my own boss, and if I can give just one person that push to do something amazing, I’ve been successful in my opinion.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would absolutely go eat at king chef diner. Their breakfast is so incredible. I would also take them hiking in the mountains both locally and further awake from Colorado Springs (such as hanging lake, Estes, Glenwood, etc) and just really show them the beauty of Colorado. Being a Colorado Springs native, and never living anywhere else, I feel like it’s easy to forget how incredible Colorado is on a daily basis. So I would want to unplug and appreciate the beauty Colorado has to offer. I would also go to the Manitou penny arcade and the Mona Lisa in Manitou as well. Manitou is such an interesting place that you could explore for the whole week and still never get bored.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are so many people that deserve a shout out, from prior coworkers, to school instructors, friends and family. My biggest cheerleaders this far have been my suite mates Allyssa and Emmarose, as well as my husband Nick. Allyssa and Emmarose are always great to bounce ideas off of, and get new perspective in the craft itself. If I’m having a bad day or week they are absolutely there to be my cheerleaders and remind me why I decided to take this journey. As for my husband Nick, I’ve never self so supported in such a real way. He always encourages me and reassures me that if anyone can make this happen it’s me /someone with my personality, without sugar coating it. He has always been very honest that it’s going to be hard but it’s going to be worth it. Which is amazing for keeping someone grounded.
