We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan Cocchiaro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Meghan, what’s the end goal, career-wise?
I am not someone who has long-term goals that are related to metrics or money but I love this question because I truly believe it’s all about the journey and not the destination. I am very much aware that life can change in the blink of an eye and I really just want to be happy and earn a living at the same time. I am also 100% OK with the notion that I can and that I might change my mind about what kind of work I want to be doing and who I want to be serving on any given day. I got into the organizing business because my previous accounting career was no longer compatible with my personal life nor with my desire to spend my time more intentionally. I felt a strong pull to help others using skills that came naturally to me while creating more time in my life to be present with my young sons.
I want to continue to provide a boutique-style organizing service to busy women and families as long as I can. Today’s modern women are busy, tired and often overwhelmed. Many of them are working mothers and juggle a multitude of responsibilities on a daily basis including invisible workloads. We have all been there at some point or will be. I want them to know that it’s OK to ask for help at home and that includes changing the flow of their daily systems. If their homes are organized in a way that best complements and supports their lifestyles, then they have more time for the things that really matter to them whether that be their careers, children, hobbies or all of the above.
At the end of my organizing years, I want to look back at my second career in life and be proud of the work I have done to help women and families during their busiest time of life. I see growth for my company, Organized by Meg, but not to where it becomes too big that I am too far removed from the hands-on work that I love so much. I get immense satisfaction out of changing my client’s homes and lives for the better.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am the founder and lead organizer of Organized by Meg ®️ LLC, an in-home full service organizing company that specializes in helping busy moms and families in Denver get their homes beautifully organized. It is our mission to provide our clients with an experience that alleviates their stress and creates beautiful order in their homes so they can focus on what really matters in their lives. We set up functional and stylish organizational systems that are are customized solutions to our client’s problems and show them how to best maintain them.
Our company is different from others because it is a small, boutique-style service that is focused on an excellent customer service experience and customized solutions for busy women and families in particular because they are in a crazy time of life. We ensure that these families can easily maintain the systems and offer maintenance services as well. Organized by Meg ®️ LLC has an incredible eye for detail and the aesthetics of how the organization blends into your home. We specialize in pantries, kitchens and closets, but we organize other spaces too. We can create simple, inexpensive systems that look clean and crisp or go beyond that and create a Pinterest-worthy pantry if that is what our clients desire.
I am most proud of helping working moms and busy families in their time of need because I can relate to their situation. My clients don’t want information on how they can organize themselves – they want someone to do it for them, from head to toe, and the relief and joy they feel when it’s complete is palpable.
My organizing business started in New Jersey in 2019 and grew through the pandemic and afterwards. As if that wasn’t challenging enough, after building a great network and client base, I moved my family to Colorado for my husband’s new job. Starting over again in a new place with no network has been challenging but I continue to focus on finding those clients in need of our services – they exist everywhere!
I want people to know that our brand is based on a mission to help you lighten the load at home. So many of us are drowning in STUFF. I truly believe in minimizing and then organizing what matters. That’s where you truly feel like your home is a sanctuary that you can relax in and not stress out in. If you don’t know about the organizing industry, I implore you to learn more about it – whether you could benefit from its services or you are thinking about a career change. Organizers are rarely short of passion and enthusiasm for the work they do.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love the Colorado outdoor lifestyle! We often have visitors because our family and friends from New Jersey love it here too. We love to take them hiking in and near our neighborhood – Roxborough State Park in particular, bike riding in local state parks like Chatfield and Waterton Canyon, and taking day trips to different mountain towns like Frisco, Breckenridge, and Vail. You cannot beat the barbeque food in the mountains! I love the vibe of Boulder’s downtown for day strolls and date nights, and strolling through Fort Collins and Golden too. When my dad visits he likes to golf with us and there are beautiful courses around, most notably Arrowhead Golf Club.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my husband, friends and extended family. My husband did not blink an eye when I wanted to quit my well paying, full-time corporate job with great benefits and a 401k to stay home with our young sons while I built a business out of my passion. He recognized the burnout I was experiencing and knew how much happier I would be. My friends and extended family members were also very supportive and many of them encouraged me to start an organizing business before I could accept that it was actually a feasible career option for me. Many of them let me unpack them after moves and practice on organizing many spaces of their homes. They spread the word in our community when I started and continue to support me now.
