We had the good fortune of connecting with Meghan DeAngelis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meghan, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
One thing that people are unaware of in the USA beauty/cosmetic industry is how unregulated it is. The beauty and cosmetic industry is worth over 500 billion dollars and yet the industry has not been changed since 1938. This means that the restricted ingredient list has not been changed since 1938. The United States currently bans 11 ingredients in personal care products while the EU bans 1300 ingredients.

Before starting my own skincare line I worked part-time for a large cosmetic company as a makeup artist. I have always had a love and passion for the beauty industry but my clean beauty journey started after my son was born. My son was diagnosed with Neurofibromotosis (NF1) a rare genetic disease. Currently there is not a cure for NF and the symptoms can be different from person to person. One of the more common symptoms are neurofibromas which are small tumors that can develop topically and in some cases internally. As a mother, not being in control over your child’s health is gut wrenching and overwhelming. After finding out about his diagnosis, My husband and I did everything in our power to help our son. We took a holistic approach and started limiting foods that are known to cause inflammation in the body. After realizing the beauty/cosmetic industry had so little regulations on what goes into the formulas I wanted to make sure that whatever we were putting on our son’s body was as safe as possible. I am a firm believer that what goes on your body is just as important as what goes in your body. There are some great baby skincare lines out there, however, a skincare line that could be used for someone that was aging into adolescence was missing in the market. We set out to create a clean, simple skincare routine and that’s when Revy Skincare became a thought and then after a lot of research our skincare line came to fruition. We proudly donate a portion of all sales to the Children’s Tumor Foundation for research to find a cure for NF. This is our small way of trying to make a difference in a situation that can feel powerless.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Revy Skincare is a simplified skincare routine formulated with clean, safe and effective ingredients. Revy is a simple three step system that serves as the foundation for any skincare routine. Revy is for the adventure seekers who don’t want to bring their entire apothecary counter with them when they get out and experience life but still want to look good and take good care of their skin.

Creating our formulas was an adventure in of itself. We researched every ingredient, made sure each ingredient served a purpose, was safe for sensitive skin and provided the results we were looking for. It took us over two years to formulate the perfect costume formula blends that we now call our own.

One of the most rewarding things so far has been when people reach out with a testimonial on how well Revy has worked for them. It is such an amazing feeling. Starting in college I worked for a cosmetic counter which then turned into a part-time job on the weekends as a traveling makeup artist along with my full time tech job. I worked in the cosmetic world for over 10 years. I loved every minute. My passion as a make-up artist was always making sure the canvas (face) was in the best shape possible. I learned so many things over the years on what moisturizer worked for people, what they preferred, what to stay away from, etc. I was able to lean heavily on my experience when we started creating Revy.

We have overcome so many challenges and we still face them everyday. When we started, picking the right manufacturing company was the biggest challenge. We wanted to make sure that our manufacturing company was FDA approved. We vetted so many! We visited manufacturing companies all over the US and found one that met all of our needs. Right now, one of our biggest challenges is social media. This is one my biggest weaknesses and it is something that can be quite expensive when relying upon third parties. I have learned more about social media over the past two years than I could have ever imagined and feel like I’m just starting to scratch the surface.

I want the world to know that Revy will never compromise its products for profits. We believe that what we put on our bodies is as important as what we put in our bodies. Revy gives back with a portion of sales going to the Children’s Tumor Foundation to fund research to find a cure for NF1, a genetic disorder that our oldest son was diagnosed with at the age of one.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week I would try and take them to all my favorite restaurants, take them on as many hikes in the city and then of course if it’s the winter, take them skiing.

A day trip in Boulder would include breakfast at Tangerine, followed by hiking Sanitas, a stroll on Pearl Street and of course stopping at Boxcar for a latte. Lunch at Avanti to show them the amazing views and great food. Dinner at Southern Sun because I love their burrito bowl! Pretty much we would be eating the entire day.

Next would be a day trip in Denver. Breakfast burrito at Downpours followed by a run around Sloans Lake, latte a Novo and then lunch at El Camino. To top off the eating day, dinner at Urban Farmer.

Skiing is one of my families favorite hobbies. I would make sure to take my friend to A-Basin and show them my favorite ski mountain in CO.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
If it wasn’t for my husband, Matt Revy Skincare would not be here today. He is the one from the very beginning who said, “I believe in you, go and start a skincare company, you have always wanted to.” To have that support is the absolute best and has allowed me to allow my dream of starting a skincare become a reality.
