We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Altamar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking

My method for risk taking is to have faith in the unknown and jump. Especially when you feel so strong about what your contemplating.

If your thinking about it all the time or dreaming it or you start seeing signs about it. Whether it’s numerology , billboards or even a song coming on with a unique message. To me those have become nudges from the universe to take those leaps.  Your self belief gets stronger and the more risk your take the more unstoppable you feel.  You may stumble at first but you always find your footing.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I started my business as a fashion and accessories designer in New York and then moved to Colorado in December 2009. When I started my businesses the intention was to bring my culture through the clothing. For all to feel and experience the culture and to inspire the younger generation.

Since my move here ,I have grown and changed and so has with my business. It was hard because I did not want to make a change but I realized the creative block was happening because I was being pointed in a different direction.

It has not been easy to realize that what I first set out to do may not be it.
What did remain in tact and got stronger was my urge to want to help people. Before it was to feel empowered and proud through garments. Now it was something bigger , something that healed ,encouraged and motivated others. That they realize they have the potential to be or do anything they set their minds too. Which is what the Baddie brand is about.

My business shifted to the healing path of holistic and metaphysical healing. I have figured out ways to incorporate my fashion under this new version of my brand. Along with healing tokens like charms , teas, candles , and healing bath salts to assist in the individual healing path.

I have learned that nothing is stronger that believing in yourself and the possibilities are endless and available for those who seek it out.
It is up to you to make it happen.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I enjoy getting out in nature and one of my go to trails is the sugarloaf trail in Boulder. The top is so breathtaking. A little gem I found recently was Fort Greene Bar , I loved the aesthetic and music and vibes were great.
I love markets so when I am not working at one I love shopping at them ! So whatever is happening that weekend we are going !
I am a big fan of the renaissance festival so I definitely visit that every summer.
Annies Dinner is one of my favorite places to get some food !

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shout out to my children and my partner and all the people that have taken part in my journey. These group of people have shown their support either by showing up at events, wearing and using the brand and encouraging me to keep pushing.  I also want to shout all the other entrepreneurs. This isn’t for the faint at heart and it’s a passion driven career. Keep making it happen !
