We had the good fortune of connecting with Melissa Friel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melissa, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose an artistic or creative career because it allows me to express myself in a way that feels natural and fulfilling. Creativity has always been a driving force in my life, and pursuing an artistic career allows me to channel that energy and passion into my work. Artistic endeavors provide a platform for self-expression, allowing me to communicate ideas, emotions, and perspectives that may be difficult to convey through other means. The ability to create something unique and meaningful, whether it be through writing, painting, music, or any other form of artistic expression, brings me immense joy and fulfillment. Additionally, an artistic career encourages continuous growth and exploration, pushing me to constantly challenge myself and think outside the box. It allows me to connect with others on a deeper level, sparking conversations and evoking emotions that can inspire and resonate with others. Ultimately, choosing an artistic or creative career is a way for me to live a life that feels authentic, purposeful, and aligned with my true passions.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of managing social media accounts for various brands and restaurants, culminating in my current role as the Director of Social Media for 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Company. This journey has spanned nearly a decade, and I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of social media in driving positive endeavors.

My career at 10th Mountain Whiskey began as an assistant distiller, where I honed my craft in whiskey production and other spirits. However, my passion for digital marketing and social media led me to transition into the role of managing the company’s online presence. This shift has been incredibly fulfilling, as it has allowed me to combine my love for the hospitality industry with the creative freedom and growth opportunities that social media offers.

One aspect that fills me with pride is the philanthropic efforts of 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Company. We are deeply committed to supporting our veterans, active duty service members, and their families. Working alongside some of the most genuine and dedicated individuals, I am honored to contribute to our collective mission of making a positive impact on the lives of military men and women. It is incredibly rewarding to be part of a team that prioritizes giving back and strives to make a difference.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

– After a day on the slopes, head to Craftsman Brew Co. for some delicious craft beer and a relaxed atmosphere. It’s a great spot to unwind and share stories from the day.
– catch a Vail Yeti hockey game
– Pay a visit to the 10th Mountain tasting room in Vail Village. Enjoy handcrafted cocktails inspired by the spirit of the mountains and learn about the distillery’s history and process.
– For dinner, head to Mountain Standard, a local favorite known for its rustic yet refined cuisine.
-Have dinner at il Mago, a fantastic Italian restaurant known for its authentic cuisine and cozy ambiance.
– Enjoy a culinary experience at Sweet Basil, a renowned restaurant recognized by the Michelin Guide.
– Take a scenic drive to Glenwood Springs and spend the day soaking in the hot springs at Iron Mountain.
– Wrap up the trip with one last day with a snowmobile trip with Nova Guides.
– In the evening, visit the 10th Mountain Whiskey tasting room in Vail Village.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ryan Thompson and Shawn Hogan and Tom Boyce have all been vital parts of my life from 10th Mountain Whiskey and Spirit Company. Without these people in my life, I would be totally lost.
