Meet Michael Matheson | Creative and designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Matheson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michael, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe one of the most important factors of my success is my ability to connect with my communities and creating partnerships locally here in Santa Barbara. A strong communication strategy and letting people know that you’re there to support them and encourage them to in their business practices too. I find that this has helped me Build and grow over the years. I find that this helps me stay creativity and feeling inspired by my community and others business practices.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Michael Matheson’s work is bold and graphic in approach and focuses on the simplification of shape and form. Equally influenced by outsider art culture, art history, illustration, and design, he explores themes of memory, nostalgia, good vibes, and the human condition. His work incorporates elements of classic design, hand-drawn typography, geometric collage using vintage printed ephemera, and found objects. at the moment my favorite project is a 350 foot mural that I’ll be working with the students and administration at San Marcus high school here in Santa Barbara.. I really think the reason I’m doing what I do today is because of people and the desire to always create something better and my skills and design to the limits.. pursuing your career in the environments is definitely challenging, but extremely rewarding. Overtime I taught myself the skills I need to succeed and it is a day-to-day process always trying to acquire a new skill set that helps me in my business. Just keep pushing and trying and learning and it will get you to the place you want to be. .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I believe a road trip would be awesome. Starting in Denver and driving down the 25 to Santa Fe. Stopping off at all the small towns like Pablo and Colorado Springs taking short hikes along the way, good food and a couple restful days in Santa Fe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Most importantly, my wife, she’s a huge supporter of what I do, and really encourages me to take risk and to keep growing my community and business outside of the Santa Barbara area. Without her I wouldn’t be able to do the stuff I do.
