We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristi Pohly and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristi, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor behind the success of Fleur Decor is relationship building with clients. In the wedding and events realm, the center of each is people. People celebrating their love for one another, a milestone, or a cause near and dear to their heart. As a business owner, it is so important for me to celebrate these events along with my clients by providing the best service in delivery and design. I mimic the personalities of my clients in their floral design so that the event has a cohesive overall feel. With this relationship building, I gain trust and accolades for my work with my clients and they in turn recommend me to their friends, and family members.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
At Fleur Décor, floral design is more than a craft–it is an art. The art of bringing together texture, color, and shape to portray a specific mood. My goal is to have the flowers emulate the personality of my client. Fleur Décor is proud to be a “green” and eco-friendly company, by utilizing recycled glassware, composting all trimmings and floral scraps, and purchasing flowers from local growers. The wedding and event industry is a tough one with many challenges, so success does not come easy. Relationship building with fellow event professionals is key in order to grow business. It is also important to come to the realization early on that as a business owner, you cannot do it all. I started out doing all of my design work, marketing, accounting, web site development, finances, and social media. It is so tough to do it all, so outsourcing is key for those aspects that are not my strong suit.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
An ideal Colorado visit would start in the mountains where we would ski in the Winter time and hike in the Summer time. In the Winter time, the Ice Castles in Dillon are a must to visit and walk through. A drive through the scenic Rocky Mountains is a nice way to spend an afternoon. We would take in a concert at the infamous Red Rocks Amphitheater and do some country dancing at the Grizzly Rose. One day would be spent on a local brewery tour visiting as many local breweries as possible. We would visit all of the niche neighborhoods with their own unique eateries and bars. We would take a day trip down south to do the Manitou Incline and walk around the beautiful Garden of the Gods and the Paint Mines in Calhan. We would also go to a sporting event because Colorado sports teams are always supported to the fullest by local fans.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout is to all of my friends that have believed in me and my work ethic. To all wedding planners and fellow wedding vendors that have referred me to their clients to design for their big day. To all corporate and non-profit event planners that instill trust in me to bring their events to life through the beauty of flowers. To all of my repeat clients that come to me time and time again to design florals to celebrate weddings, anniversaries, baby births, good deeds, mothers, love for one another, celebration of life and everything in between. Also, a huge shout out to my golden retriever, Kaila, as she is my rock and she keeps my calm through the stress and demands that weddings bring. She is a constant love and support in my life and I owe her for keeping me in a good state of mind.
