We had the good fortune of connecting with Michael Trujillo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Michael, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
All of putting yourself out there as a creative is a risk on its own. You never know who you might meet or what might come with all the art you put out but staying true to self and risking your ideas will catch some eyes. But it all is worth it in the long run. Definitely had to risk some sleep, relationships, and free time to get here but I don’t regret it.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think that I just want people to feel music in a different way, how it made me feel. Music is also something that never judges, so you can be whoever you wanna be and not feel shamed which is something that is more frequent today. I just always loved seeing how wether you are in the car blasting a song, or at a festival with your best friends, all thoughts and worries escape and you can be in the moment. But my love for music has always been there. I remember being 9 or 10 and being gifted a little DJ mixer that I would spend all day on. Around that time was when I was super invested in the EDM world and culture. It grabbed ahold of me for sure. But I realized at the time that if I wanted to catch eyes, I would have to start making music if my own so at about 15, I sat down and taught myself as much as I could about production. It was super frustrating at first but I started to suck less and less. The most challenging part about it all though is probably thinking too much about what it is you’re making. Probably the biggest lesson I learned and still live by is that you should never NOT listen to your gut. If you have dreams, chase them, just do it, definitely not a shoutout to Nike… If there is anything I want people to take from my art, its that you don’t have to worry about life because it is way too short to worry everyday. If your life was a book, you would want it to have meaning and be filled with stories.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My personal favorite types of places are anywhere with cool lights or just city vibes in general. For some reason I have always been in love with the city life. I think it also resonates a lot in my music, the “nightlife cruising vibes.” I’ve traveled to some cool places as well so anything tropical or I love. Being able to bring my friends overseas is something I look forward to! But here at home I love finding new restaurants and meeting new friends at some of the local clubs. Denver is a spot that has a lot of hidden gems!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Big shoutout to God for blessing me with these opportunities, and a shoutout to my family and friends, old and new who have always seen my crazy ideas through. All of the friends that I have made who are also creating new worlds for people to enjoy whether thats music, photo, video, events, they all deserve their shine! They have all helped me become a better person and artist together. I have had a different look at things for sure after everything they have taught me!
