We had the good fortune of connecting with Michaela Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michaela, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Dogs. I absolutely love and adore them so much. Dogs have taught me more about meditation and the ability to connect to anyone. Dogs are always present and they know who they are no matter what occurs with other people! They always no matter what show up in love!
What should our readers know about your business?
I owned a pet sitting and dog walking company for 9 years and had started it when I was in college.
All I did was work. I would work 80-to-100-hour weeks and would “say” that I loved the work because that is what I saw everyone else doing. I did love my business as it was a very successful dog sitting and dog walking business. I love dogs and they love me! However, the truth was: I was hiding from myself and from others who could judge me.
I ultimately made a big decision to sell my business which I had built from scratch. My family and friends were a big part in supporting me in whatever direction I wanted to go. I would go back and forth on selling the business, keeping it or just saying that I am moving and the business will no longer be around. I am definitely a thinker when I am trying to make a big decision. The mountains have always been my spot to have my time to connect and figure out what I actually want.
After selling the business I took a break for the first time ever! I was able to see who I was without a business. I was super fun without a business but I decided to start another one. Hahah! Oh the joys of being an entrepreneur at times. I started Karma Koaches in August of 2019 and decided I would then start speaking at other organizations to be able to connect coaches to coaches and coaches to clients. Then covid hit and I got the opportunity to meet a whole lot more folks virtually. It was a pivot that wasn’t easy for me because I had a plan and then to have everything shift I got scared. I ultimately ended up having people show up for me that just surprised me so much that I just kept going. Karma Koaches now has a super solid community and we are growing which is even more amazing!
I have also learned that owning a company that is purely based online means that we get the opportunity to redo the website every six months! I just want to make sure people have a good experience with the website. Being an entrepreneur can be one of the most rewarding and horrible experiences and it can happen all in one day. All I know is that if I am good today, then I will get to the next day to do it all over again. As long as if I am present, creating magic with others and laughing the whole way then I know I am in the spot for me!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A day in the life pre covid would be going to the mountains because they are absolutely beautiful right outside of denver, then go out to dinner downtown and then salsa dancing until late in the evening! It is all about being able to be fully present in all of them.
Current covid times would be to still go to the mountains, go hiking and say hi to dogs. Then we would go to Cheesman park because that is literally my favorite park with a picnic of amazing food!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes out to my friends and family, through all the crazy they still show up which is amazing!
