We had the good fortune of connecting with Mike Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mike, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Early in my career, my primary focus was on financial success. Money was a top motivating factor, driving me to work long hours and travel extensively across the state. The allure of high-paying opportunities often meant sacrificing personal time and leisure activities. My ambition and determination to chase the dollar were fueled by a desire to establish a strong financial foundation. The long hours and constant travel were seen as necessary steps toward achieving my professional goals and financial stability.

As I have grown older, my perspective on work-life balance has shifted significantly. With the arrival of my children, the value of my time has become more precious. I realized that while financial success is important, it should not come at the expense of spending quality time with my family. Consequently, I have made strategic changes in my business practices, prioritizing efficiency and delegating tasks to free up more personal time. This transition has allowed me to enjoy activities I love with my family, fostering stronger relationships and a more fulfilling life. Now, my work-life balance is centered around ensuring that my professional endeavors support, rather than hinder, my personal happiness and family well-being.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Heirloom Wealth Management is a full-service wealth management firm that operates with the personalized attention of a family office, serving as our clients’ personal Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Our approach sets us apart through the integration of alternative investments and cutting-edge portfolio strategies that consistently deliver exceptional performance. We take pride in our holistic, client-centered philosophy, which ensures that every decision we make is aligned with our clients’ best interests. This commitment to excellence and personalized service distinguishes Heirloom Wealth Management in a crowded marketplace.

One of the aspects I am most proud of is our team’s dedication and shared values. We have cultivated a group of like-minded professionals who are genuinely committed to putting our clients first. This unity of purpose has been instrumental in our success and has allowed us to create a supportive and collaborative environment. Our decision to leave a large wirehouse firm stemmed from a misalignment of morals and ethics. The transition to independence was far from easy, involving significant red tape and numerous legal challenges. However, we persevered because we believed that independence was essential for providing the best possible service to our clients.

The journey to where we are today has been filled with challenges, but each obstacle has provided valuable lessons. We have learned the importance of resilience, ethical integrity, and the power of a client-first approach. These lessons have shaped our business philosophy and have reinforced our commitment to delivering exceptional financial management. Heirloom Wealth Management stands as a testament to the idea that true success is built on a foundation of trust, integrity, and unwavering dedication to client well-being. We want the world to know that our story is one of commitment and passion, and that we are dedicated to helping our clients achieve their financial goals with unparalleled expertise and personalized care.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting for a day, I’d take them to Glendo Reservoir in Glendo, Wyoming, about three hours north of Denver. Here’s our action-packed itinerary:

Morning:

Head out early to Glendo Reservoir for wake surfing behind my boat.
Enjoy cliff jumping and relaxing on Sandy Beach.

Afternoon:

Grab lunch at Angler’s, my favorite local restaurant.
Go for a mountain bike ride along the scenic ridge.

Evening:

Participate in a cornhole tournament in town.
End the day with a casual dinner at another local eatery.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a heartfelt shoutout to Michael Euston, my co-founder at Heirloom Wealth Management. Mike exemplifies all the qualities I would hope for in the future husband of my daughter. His integrity is flawless, consistently guiding his actions and decisions. Mike is always striving for self-improvement, embodying a dedication to personal and professional growth that is truly inspiring. He is the smartest person I know, and his expertise is unparalleled—he not only holds a Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation but is also on the verge of becoming a Certified Financial Analyst (CFA). Working alongside Mike has been an honor, and his contributions to our firm are invaluable.
