We had the good fortune of connecting with Mikey Frost and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mikey, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
The one that has always stuck with me has been “The Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with One Step” by Lao Tzu. It is a reminder of how progress is still progress no matter how small. Today, we as a world, have been spoiled with instant gratification. Everything we could ever want could be received with a press of a button and so when it comes to growing a business that takes time, it can be very discouraging for a new business. Progress moves so much slower than anyone new to this first expects so it’s important to know that taking a step in the right direction is still progress.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a big foodie and enjoy taking photos of life happening around me. Eventually those two passions came together and I started doing food photography all the time. The thing I am most proud of is being able to work with the restaurants that gave me a chance at the start of my career. They gave me a lot of access and trust and I’m honored to have worked with them. My success today comes from risk taking and perseverance, even in difficult times. With as many twists and turns that path had, it certainly wasn’t easy. Restaurants gave a lot of no’s at first and it was hard not to take it to heart. I overcame this by giving out free sessions at first, so it wasn’t as big of a risk to my clients and I still got the experience. The biggest lesson learned is patience and perseverance as success was a slow build. A lot of people starting out want to see outcomes right away and I was one of those people. But for most, recognition doesn’t come overnight. What I want people to know about my brand and my story is that I love showing people new things, especially when it comes to food and drinks. Of all the things in the world, those two things are what connect us to each other the most.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We’d start the day at a lovely coffee shop called “Grounds For Dismissal” up in Denver. They have flights of coffee and matcha which definitely surprised me my first time around. They also have a delicious selection of breakfast too. After feeling energized from a good breakfast, we’d make the trip down to Manitou Springs and give the Incline our best shot. It is a series of stairs that go up a mile high and not for the faint of heart. After a long day of climbing the stairs and walking down, I’d take them to my newest favorite restaurant in the area called “Border Burger Bar” where they have the craziest selection of burgers I’ve ever seen! We’d walk around Manitou for a while, checking out the penny arcade and maybe trying the spring waters around town.

The next day would be the main event. The Denver Ramen Festival would headline the weekend as we leave to get there early and wait in line. We’d try all the sample from ramen shops from around Colorado as well as the boba drinks. When the live performance starts, we’d let ourselves digest while we watch the performers and music happen.

After all that, we’d probably just hang out until they headed to the airport the next day because I’d certainly be burnt out from going all round Colorado!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
