We had the good fortune of connecting with Moe Amar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Moe, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Because I had to. I spent years as a firefighter. That’s what I was born to do, but I’ve always taken pictures. Once I couldn’t be a firefighter anymore due to injury, I fell into a very dark place mentally. My photography helped me find the light. Every time I’m able to help someone process a trauma through photos, it heals me as well.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Photography is my therapy. Getting on my motorcycle and heading out into the world to see what I can find and capture is the one thing that makes me feel alive. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that photography has room for all the different styles. I just find great pride in taking photos and presenting those with no editing. I believe in the honesty of photos in a world that’s so often filtered.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m just not a city boy at all. My favorite parts of the city are the highways leading out of it. I’m much more interested in taking a friend to Echo Lake, or the peak to peak highway. Pikes Peak is also a gorgeous destination. Garden of the Gods or Red Rocks. Given the time and if they ride, the million dollar highway is incredible.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There’s one person who was responsible for who I’ve become and that’s my mom. She was so instrumental in molding the adult I’ve become. Every decision is based on if it would have made her proud of me. Secondly, the people who have stood by me during my darkest days. The ones that have loved me when I couldn’t love myself. Success means staying alive even when I don’t want to be and earning the love that’s been so freely given to me.
