Meet Monique Macias | Local photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Monique Macias and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Monique, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I’m from around North east Denver born and raised, I have grown up and lived in the Cole neighborhood and graduated from DSST Cole in 2022. I was a low income kid with limited access. With the help from my school I went to a journalism program where I fell in love with photography even more. I was always the person taking pictures and video, with reason. I lost family at a very young age, so pictures are my way of love. I have always been the one cousin or friend that’s always taking pictures or videos It’s the way I cherish the moments that should be shared with the world. I love capturing peoples beautiful moments and helping them build their confidence!

What should our readers know about your business?
Honestly I’ve only had my business for about a year and a half but it’s all a growing process. To anybody who wants to start it, do it. The only thing that’s stopping you is you, if you really want to do something it’ll all happen with time. All the clients will come in with time and exposure! Nothings been easy along the way like I’ve said I’ve grown and I can keep growing honestly. I feel like there’s so much I can learn in this industry.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly I love Colorado for its scenery, we get lucky with so many gems like Evergreen Colorado and boulder is amazing for hikes and good views. I would take them to one of my favorite Mexican spots on broadway Cabrón Cabrón where they have some of the best aguas and Mexican dishes like no other! I love finding small businesses and restaurants and going to try new things.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly there’s one teacher that helped me fall in love with photography, Mr.Roose! Honestly that man let me borrow his camera all senior year and that really set my mind on getting my own camera. But just for somebody to allow you to borrow their own camera or equipment for a duration so long. I don’t know how I could ever say thank you.
I also want to give huge credits to everyone who has trusted me and helped me build my portfolio. My family is constantly sharing and helping network! My support team is always coming through!
