We had the good fortune of connecting with MoonBeem and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi MoonBeem, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
“Balance is sort of an illusion” is what Em Lucker, singer of MoonBeem stated, its more about finding what is important to you. We all work jobs to support our lives and this crazy lifestyle we have chosen to pursue. Findings times we can all meet has gotten more difficult this summer, with our busy work schedules finding time to play music and practice can be a challenge.
Em said “I have changed jobs so my schedule can be more accommodating to the music”. But we are all dedicated and are prominent in keeping this train rolling. It’s an interesting phenomenon, our zen away from work is music and at times our zen away from music is work. Nick said “When your hobby turns into your career, your outlet of calm and peace changes, while music is still what I love, now that this is a career path we have started going down, finding other hobbies to pass the time is important.” Liam said “We all feel this is a long term goal of ours and we have sacrificed a lot in regards to finances, time, etc. to make this happen.” The balance between our day jobs and our music is a tight rope walk we are slowly starting to figure out.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
We have come a long way since we first began playing together and we still think we have a long ways to go. Kyle noted, “It is a slow climb of hard work and dedication”. More opportunities have opened us for us as we continue to work and improve as musicians and performers. It is not something that comes overnight though, despite what it may seem like from looking at social media. We have learned how to adapt and change plans on the fly. Liam says, “Expect the unexpected. The best thing you can do is be prepared to adapt rather than be prepared for one certain outcome.” We want the world to know that the best of moonbeem is still yet to come, and we are ready to deify the odds and all expectations.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Kyle says, “Definitely the Monument for a hike, and to ski at up at Powderhorn.” We are lucky to live in such a beautiful town surrounded by amazing nature to explore. Just try not to break your arm and leg skiing like our singing did” Nick adds.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
We all as individuals owe a lot to friends, family, mentors, heroes, etc. But as a band we owe our gratitude to another local Grand Junction band Kid Caravan. They gave us our 1st shot as MoonBeem to open for them at the Mesa Theater, an iconic music venue on the western slope. They are all good friends of ours we met through music and college, and we operate sort of as a brother and sister band with them in the music scene in Colorado. We also want to shout out the band Spafford, a very well known and incredible jam band from Arizona, this summer they gave us a chance to open for them on their 2 night run in Gunnison, Colorado at the iBar Ranch. And thanks to that we got our music out to a larger fan base and got to meet and hang around professionals who thrive in the music business. We learned a lot from them.
