We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Hayes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I wanted to be able to provide this work for people that wanted help in these areas but perhaps had not really seen themselves in this work. As a first-generation Mexican American woman, I know there is a lot of stigma in our culture for those who don’t follow the religious path. I also recognize that what I do is nothing new, and it is in a lot of ways a circling back to our ancestral roots, but it can feel very challenging to break away from the current cultural expectations.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business is built on trying to bring healing and magic into other people’s lives. Whether that is through my one on one work, classes that I teach, events, or even other offerings, I am always grateful to connect with others. I am so proud to be able to lead the way for so many that are curious about these aspects of life. It hasn’t been easy, and I have often thought of just giving up, but I am so glad to have the support of those who are around me to keep me motivated and moving forwards. I have been very lucky that I can continuously find new ways to share and show up in my work. The biggest lesson that I have learned along the way is to just remain curious: ask questions, be open, and remember you don’t really know anything at the end of the day! And that is perfectly alright. All of the things that I currently do were at one point of time not allowed or accepted (much less understood) by society at large. I am so grateful to see a shift in acceptance and availability for everyone to access these things, too. I would love for others to know that I deeply respect and adore the work that I do. I feel so lucky to be able to show up and share this with others!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely start my day off with coffee and a treat from Carnelian Coffee Co in Old Colorado City, and then follow it up with a trip to Garden of the Gods, as it is absolutely breathtaking and the walks are so enjoyable. For lunch, we would hit up Rock City Cafe for their amazing burgers and fries, and then maybe go check out what’s happening out in downtown or Manitou. At some point, we would get some Indian, Vietnamese, Thai, and Mexican food from some of the local spots. I love checking out the fun little shops around Old Colorado City, so I would spend a bit of time doing that, as well. My family also enjoys going out to the Broadmoor and Red Rocks Open Space when the weather is nice. For a couple of other restaurants we love: Shuga’s has a fun menu and a great space, so I think I would definitely need to add it as a spot. Hafa Adai is absolutely delish, so I know we would have to add that to our itinerary. As far as local places, I enjoy Cronk Art & Curiosities, Celestial Salt, Faery Grove, and The Broom Circle. There are a lot of fun little shops that I really enjoy seeing and visiting! There are a lot of places that would be great to add to our list, but these are the ones I can think of off the top of my head.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to thank my spouse and children that have been so supportive of my work and have also encouraged me to keep getting out of my comfort zone.
