We had the good fortune of connecting with Will and Susan Revak and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Will and Susan, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Most people (and even companies in the field) are prone to believing an oral health myth. This myth is “What goes in the mouth stays in the mouth, so long as you spit it out.”

It’s a myth because, well, it’s not true. In fact, research has clearly proven that whatever we put in our mouths goes into our bloodstream via absorption through the cheek and gum tissue.

So what’s the big deal with believing this myth?

Most people are willing to put oral hygiene products into their mouths that they would not otherwise be willing to swallow because they believe this myth. For example, it’s thankfully now commonly known that most toothpastes have a warning on them stating that “if you child swallows more than a pea sized amount, call the poison control center.”

Can you see the hole in logic here?

Now that you are aware of this myth, you can see that using a product that requires that we call the poison control center if swallowed is still under the spell of this myth.

Being a holistic oral health solution company, we’re well aware of this myth. That’s why we formulate our products with full awareness that whatever we put in our mouths is going into the whole body, whether we swallow it or not.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Our background is in the Chinese longevity arts (think tai chi). We’ve been studying these arts for the past 35+ years. As such, we’re ‘hardwired’ to think holistically.

When necessity required that we turn our love for learning to oral health, we created what dentists have called a ‘dental miracle’ by reversing a case of advanced gum (periodontal) disease without any dental intervention.

Fast forward several years, we started OraWellness in 2010 with the intent to help others navigate the path to optimal oral health and overcome what dentistry considers impossible.

How is it possible what our community is able to accomplish?

What the dental field by in large does not consider is this important variable. How much is each patient willing to learn and apply at home? What we’ve found is that some people are willing to realize that they are the MVP, the most valuable person, in their oral health journey. This one little shift makes a huge difference when it comes to creating optimal oral health over time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Fun question :).

First off, it would really depend what the friend wanted and why.

Assuming they were ok with whatever we wanted to share, we would spend the time visiting gorgeous places in nature. There is nothing better than ‘forest bathing’ or sitting in an icy cold, gorgeous river to bring to awareness just how precious and amazing each day is.

So, a blend of immersing into gorgeous natural settings and quality quiet times enjoying home cooked, nutritious meals would be our pick. 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Three points come to mind.

First, we are standing on the shoulders of giants who have taken the path less traveled. Pioneers like Weston Price, Ralph Steinman, and Hal Huggins were all willing to put their reputations on the line to seek the truth. We’re blessed to be able to contribute to solutions by leveraging their work.

Second, our amazing global community helps guide our research. Truly, it’s the outreach we receive everyday from kind people in our network asking us their oral health questions that direct us to dig into the scientific literature and share our insights along the way.

And third and equally important, we couldn’t do what we do without the amazing team of helper’s hearts that we feel blessed to work with everyday. We know that we are only able to do what we do because we have a support network of truly wonderful people who work with us to help us serve our global community.
