We had the good fortune of connecting with Nancy Wingham and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nancy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I grew up in a family that is full of entrepreneurs and trailblazers, so following a path to starting a business was always in the back of my mind, but it wasn’t until I met my husband and co-founder Anthony that Nuez Acres was created. After our daughter Sophia (5) was born, we realized that we as a family wanted more freedom and flexibility to be able to be present in her life. As a mom, I wanted to create a legacy that she can be proud of and potentially be part of when she grew up.

We saw an opportunity to create something truly unique by utilizing my father’s pecans and using the oil for skincare. We noticed a gap in the Beauty Industry as pecan oil is not being widely used in the industry at the moment.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Nuez Acres, we are proud to be one of the few skincare brands in the world that harnesses the power of pecans. What sets us apart is our dedication to trace everything back to the farm, which is rare in the beauty industry. We are excited to offer something truly unique and innovative to our customers while advocating for the conservation of water in the beauty industry, which is critical during the current climate crisis. We believe in providing high-quality, sustainable, and ethical products that not only benefit our customers but also the environment. Our journey to success has been challenging, but we have learned to adapt and persevere, never losing sight of our core values, which has brought us to where we are today.

Starting my own business has been a mix of excitement and hurdles. It definitely wasn’t easy, but overcoming each challenge has made me a stronger and more experienced entrepreneur. There were many unknowns and doubts along the way, but I found that taking things one step at a time helped me move forward and make progress. Of course, there were times when I felt alone and overwhelmed, but seeing my product come to life and receiving positive feedback from customers made it all worth it. Through my journey, I’ve learned the importance of asking for help. It’s okay to admit your weaknesses and work with others who have complementary strengths, in my case I am truly blessed to be working alongside my husband Anthony. I believe that with the right mindset, perseverance, and support, anyone can become successful in the business world.

At our core, we are not merely a skincare brand; we are a movement. Our mission is to create lasting and powerful changes in the beauty industry, to ensure safe and clean products are available to everyone, and to protect the environment as we do so. In a world where the beauty industry is heavily dominated by harmful chemicals and unethical practices, we strive to be an authentic, genuine competition. Our brand and story extend far beyond the surface-level idea of skincare. We want to make a difference, and we want to make it now. We believe that everyone deserves access to products they can trust and that won’t harm them or the planet. That’s why we’ve worked so hard to create a line of skincare products that are both effective and ethical, putting both people and the earth first.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love both the city vibes, but also love outdoors. Which is why I love Colorado, you can have the best of both worlds.

I would start off in Denver, with a visit to the Art Museum and the botanical gardens, finishing the day at Wynkoop Brewery.
Then it would be exploring magical outdoor places like Red Rocks and staying for a concert. Then exploring Boulder and hiking to Royal Arch.

I would end the trip at Breckenridge with brunch at Columbine Cafe.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
When it comes to recognizing those who deserve a shoutout, my mom is at the top of my list. I know I can always count on her, and she is a huge support for me personally and the company.

I have also learned so much from her. She was a salesperson at a radio station and I vividly remember accompanying her on trips to various businesses, where she would tirelessly pitch her ideas and negotiate contracts. Watching her in action taught me the importance of persistence, hard work, and the value of creating lasting connections. Her ability to connect with people and create relationships in order to meet her sales targets has always been a huge inspiration to me.

As I now embark on selling my own products, her influence remains with me every step of the way. From providing insight and guidance, to serving as a constant cheerleader, my mom has been an unwavering support system for myself and our business. I owe so much to her, and am grateful for the positive impact she has had on my life.
