We had the good fortune of connecting with Nat Feather and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nat, how does your business help the community?
Cooperation over competition has been the idea behind Lightspeed Curations from the beginning. Our goal is to foster community through arts education. We not only give artists a place to display their work, but also encourage them to progress their process through experimentation and open discourse.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an experimental artist, meaning that I work with as many forms of art as I can. In addition to paintings and sculptures. I have been tattooing for over 20 years and have started doing different experimental techniques in my tattooing style as well.
Watching my apprentices grow and progress in their craft is currently my proudest and most fulling project. I have had the pleasure of being able to teach and influence young artists to follow their dreams with the best tools of success I have learned over the years.
Nothing worthwhile in life comes easy. I have found that when it comes to overcoming challenges, I’ve always just had to pull the willpower to push through all of the unexpected hurdles that have come my way. In building a business, even though I knew there would be several problems that would need to be solved, but there were so much more than I had originally expected. With the support of my coworkers and friends, I have always managed to overcome all challenges, even when frustrations were at an all time high.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many food spots and art walks that are all over Denver and Colorado Springs as well as Pueblo, so I would not be able to stay located in just one city for the entire week. Denver Biscuit Company (Denver), King Chef ( Colorado Springs) and B Street Cafe (Pueblo) are all great places for breakfast. Denver has a great art walk as well as a beautiful art museum that rotates many different kinds of shows. Cochino Taco is a great spot for lunch in Denver and Denver has many clubs and bars that are great for night time activities. My favorite spot for lunch in Colorado Springs is Monse’s Pupuseria, a local Salvadorian owned restaurant and Greenline Grill provides a great family spot. Colorado Springs has many art galleries and public art that is found throughout the city. My favorite lunch spot in Pueblo is Brues Alehouse, which provides a cozy environment right next to the riverwalk. Pueblo also has a great punk rock music scene that is fun to explore.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are several parties that have been integral to the opening of LightSpeed. My first shoutout is to my co-owner, Jake Hopkins. Jake is a distinguished photographer and has helped facilitate the web presence and marketing plans for LightSpeed. My next shout out is to the art community in Colorado Springs, to include Robert Gray (member of the Pikes Peak Art Council), Robin Schneider (owner of Art 111), Abigail Kreuser (owner of Kreuser Gallery), Joshua Coats (art curator). All of these people have given me the encouragement and support to follow my dreams as an artist. My last shoutout is to the EDM scene based in Colorado Springs, especially to the Flowmies kids and several DJS that have provided several promotions and held fundraising events to help LightSpeed open successfully.
