We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicholas Crandall and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicholas, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is by far my relationship with the creator, God. I am inspired constantly by the beauty of His creation. Both nature, and the subjects of my shoot. Seeing the bond between two humans and being able to bring that to life in the art form of photography is extremely important. Being able to rely on a hope that is provided by something other than this world allows for me to be able to take risks and expand my creativity in ways that would not be possible without that hope. Being able to rely on God when times are tough as a business owner is extremely important to my success and drive as a photographer. It also allows me to relax and focus on what God has created in front of me. God blessed me with the creativity that I have so I strive to showcase his goodness and creativeness through every shoot I do.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always been captivated by all types of art from a young age, but have always been told that there was no way to make a living as an artist. Although, photography is an art that I love and have been able to provide for myself off of. What separates my art from others, I believe, is my attention to detail. In both shooting and in post I find my eye drawn to the smallest details that came make or break the beauty of the photo. I strive to be able to show a story through my photography. My Moto is, “It all begins with a story, and you should be able to read that story in a photo that showcases 1,000 words.” Being told art was never really an option to pursue professionally was hard, until I fell in love with photography my senior year of high school. Immediately, I was drawn to the ability to be able to create and be involved in some of the biggest moments of peoples lives. It certainly was not easy to get where I am today, from choosing and affording to be able to buy gear, to understanding how to operate all of the post operations, to finding clients was and still can be a daily challenge where I am learning more and more every day. One of the main ways I overcame so many of the challenges were helpful photographers above me that showed me tips and tricks that took my game to the next level. I joined styled shoots and met other photographers and have been so blessed to learn from so many amazing people. The other way I have overcome so many obstacles, like learning my camera, and learning how to edit, was to shoot daily and figure out what worked best by trail and error. Doing this also allowed me to tune into what my brand is and how to be even more creative through my photography. I hope when people see my brand they can see my photography is all about authenticity, that it is elegant, that it is warm, and that it is joyful. Throughout this amazing journey I have learned so much about what it means to persevere and to believe in myself. The life skills I have today that I can apply to everything that I have learned from being a wedding photographer are innumerable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting the area first and foremost, I would take them to lookout mountain to see the city lights at night when they arrive, they are beautiful and if you can catch sunset on lookout you are even more lucky. I would then take them skiing and either keystone or copper mountain, both of which I love. We would obviously then have to hit up Little mans Ice cream shop, and maybe Voodoo donuts too. I would have to also have to take them through Dutch Bros coffee, and then show them some of my favorite local coffee shops like Bardos, and Vibe Coffee and wine.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Lauren Pippin Photo has been a photographer that I have always looked up to. The way she strives to give God the Glory in her business and in her photography is awe inspiring. She is such an amazing creative and has helped me and encouraged me in my photography ever since I moved to Colorado!
