We had the good fortune of connecting with Jessika Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jessika, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
A deep desire to offer a higher level of care. When I work with a client they receive my undivided attention and generous appointment times. You should never feel rushed or unheard. All of my clients have my personal phone number and they’re encouraged to use it. We all come with a backstory and that story plays a significant role in our current situation. Taking the time to genuinely understand a persons concerns and what could be contributing to them allows us to create a path to true healing. I don’t believe in treating or masking symptoms but I sure do love coming alongside clients as they address the root of the problem. My goal is to educate, encourage and empower others to confidently make well-informed choices for their health and the health of their little ones.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business is entirely devoted to treating oral restrictions, things like tongue, lip and cheek ties. I use the most precise and gentle technology to release these restrictions. For me the surgery is the simple part. Honoring the complexity of each individual is the challenge. It is such an privilege to get to know each client and I love spending time to do this. Often I’m working with parents of newborns, which is such a sacred and beautiful chapter of life. Feelings can be big and raw and sometimes parents are processing their experience for the first time as they sit with me. There is nothing better than being trusted to hear their stories and surrounding them with a team of caring professionals to walk alongside them as they achieve their goals.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would spend a whole afternoon in Manitou Springs starting at The Mate’ Factor for some chai and mocha mint mate’. I love the atmosphere there, it reminds me of a treehouse. The food is local and incredible, the employees are kind and genuine. Then we’d go to Salus and create some fabulous handcrafted body products. We would definitely go to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and feed the giraffes. We’d have a picnic at the Monument Valley Park and walk around downtown exploring local stores. We would visit Ahavah Farms for one of their markets and a tour, this family run CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) is a non-profit making a big difference in our community. The founders, Yousef and Havah have an incredible mission and dedication to the most pure produce on the planet. If there was time we’d catch a concert at Weidner Field.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It has been quite a journey! One that I wouldn’t have discovered without my daughter, Maizy. I worked in dentistry for many years before her birth but it took Maizy to show me how much I didn’t know. She was my firstborn. I’d read all the books and done all the things to have an amazing pregnancy and birth. I felt so prepared for her arrival…and then she came. It was 12 days after her due date and she was a sleepy girl. We didn’t feed well and was diagnosed, “failure to thrive” within her first week of life. I felt clueless and hopeless, like I’d failed at something that should be so natural. I quickly learned that breastfeeding could be really hard and excruciatingly painful. How did other moms do this? We learned more about each other and how to make breastfeeding work but there were still challenges. If not for these challenges I would not have began my relentless pursuit for answers. Finding those answers has been life changing for me and my sweet girl.
