We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicholas Stock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nicholas, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
These days starting your own thing can be more forced than in years prior. What I mean is, corporate jobs are cushy. I’ve had one most of my adult life. Starting your own business or even striking out as a full time freelance can be scary. It was and still is for me despite the progress and successes along the way. So for me Covid support was drying up and I had applied to 40 or 50 jobs with not much more than a few interviews to show for my effort. I landed a regular gig with the Professional Disc Golf Association shooting events and I thought this is my chance to break free. So I’ve been on the full time freelance train ever since and I honestly prefer it over the 9 to 5. It’s more spontaneous and unpredictable but I find myself working and shooting in some really interesting places including on the Broncos sideline or on the stage with The Lumineers at Coors Field.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
It’s all a process right? Where I am is somewhere in the middle and I think that’s a fine place to be. I’ve learned so much along the way but the one thing that has stuck with me is do your own stuff. No one is in the business of making other people rich. If you are working for someone else that’s great but never stop working on your own stuff. That is how you will make your mark. Start writing now, start telling your own stories, the technology and tools are there. I spent so much time making other people’s ideas a reality that I had no time to make my own ideas a reality. As I get older I look for more opportunities to make my own content.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The entire Front Range is chocked full of things to do and places to go. I would say for me personally Red Rocks Amphitheater would be high on the list of first places to go. It’s where god would go if he like to see live music. In short Colorado is a beer soaked oasis of beauty and depravity. You can stay out late and get rowdy or you can wake up early and hike to meet the sunrise. The is truly a Choose Your Own Adventure type state and the world is your oyster. I’m a record guy so I love bouncing around some of the iconic shops like Twist and Shout or Wax Trax in Denver or Songbyrd or Driver8 in Fort Collins before snagging some amazing tacos at Los Torascos.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother and my wife are my two biggest boosters and I would not be where I am without their love and support. So I’d love to take this opportunity to give my shout out to both my mother and my amazing and beautiful wife who are both just incredible people.
