We had the good fortune of connecting with Nick Waters and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nick, why did you pursue a creative career?
It serves as an escape for the different emotions I go through, but also as a method to express who I am. Through the art of photography, I am able to demonstrate and express the different emotions and styles of creativity that I possess.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I began my journey of being a photographer right before high school. It was the summer between 8th grade and high school when I went on a trip to the Philippines to visit family. I wanted to remember this trip, so I took photos of everything. As I was taking photos of literally everything, I wanted to capture the uniqueness of the environment I was in. When I got back to the states after the trip, I found myself continuing to capture the uniqueness in everything, whether it was sunsets, flowers, car shows, etc. For a couple years, I pursued sunset and flower photos. However, I noticed myself slowly expanding into automotive photography due to my love and passion for cars. Today, I solely photograph cars. I attempt to capture their uniqueness and what sets them out amongst other cars. While I am a photographer, I’ve learned that it’s not always about putting out the best photos, but expressing a style in those images.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would recommend Garden of The Gods as it is a beautiful place to visit whether you drive through, walk through, or even sit and enjoy the calmness. I’d also recommend taking a drive down to the royal gorge and experiencing a different side of nature. Now, when it comes to somewhere to eat and if you love pizza, I’d recommend Fat Sully’s. It’s affordable and good pizza with a good environment that I catch myself and friends always hanging out at. Taking a walk or cruise on scooters through downtown is always enjoyable as downtown has a lot to offer and easy to find places that best suit you.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My biggest shoutout is to my parents. My parents have supported me since day 1 and have always encouraged me to follow what makes me happy. When I began my photography journey, they were always complimenting my work and giving me the urge to keep going. As my photography expanded and I began to become more dedicated to it, my parents continued to show their support and encouragement. Overall, my parents are my biggest reason for why I keep going and pushing forward everyday. Next, I’d like to shoutout my girlfriend. Recently, I have been feeling a lack of motivation for photography and for the style that I express within my photos. However, she has always supported my work and pushed me to keep doing what I am doing. Her uplifting push and efforts deserve credit for why I am still going.
