We had the good fortune of connecting with Nicole York and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
Working makes me the happiest. I always felt very motivated and dedicated to the things I do. There’s nothing better than waking up in the morning and going to work lol some people might disagree but if you do what you love that will be your daily happiness!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Hey, my name is Nicole York and I’m a tattoo artist at my own studio Black Mamba Tattoo located in Denver by East Mississippi Ave and South Parker Road. I specialize in black and grey, dot work, fine line and ornamental tattoos. I’ve been doing art my whole life but my tattoo artist career started in the end of 2021. My husband and I always wanted to connect our businesses and open a tattoo and recording studio together. We worked really hard on our crafts in the past few years and finally was able to move forward, make some big decisions and open our own spot. I think if you work towards something that you do with love and passion things are not as hard but that doesn’t mean it was easy! There’s always some ups and downs and worries but you have to go tru it and not let anything stop you. I love the fact that I can work in my own space. I learned that when you open a business you have to invest in yourself , be ready to make hard decisions and learn to set up goals and work towards them. You can never stop learning!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Original Pancake House in Cherry Hills, this place is amazing! Also definitely my tattoo studio lol because for me doing something fun is spending time at work. Also Of course we have to swing by RooftopSound Records, we are in the same spot!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely my husband Rooftop York! If not him I would never be a tattoo artist! Sometimes people work for many years not knowing what they want to do in the future and that was me for a while. I always worked very hard, multiple jobs at once but I never really knew my career. He helped me finding out about my skill and always believed in me! He let me practice on him while I had no idea what I was doing lol this is true love and I am so thankful for his support! Love you babe!!!
