We had the good fortune of connecting with Nik Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nik, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Owning a business has taught me many lessons. Most importantly however, my business has taught me that less is truly more. Oftentimes as entrepreneurs it feels like we are missing opportunities if we don’t have a vast product offering or try to attract every type of audience, when in fact the opposite is true. When you focus on a very specific niche more opportunities come your way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My job as a Personal Brand Coach involves creating online courses, trainings and resources to help women entrepreneurs grow their personal brand so that they can accomplish three things:

• Establish their credibility

• Amplify their expertise and

• Increase awareness for their businesses

My journey to this point has not been easy. I have faced just about every obstacle an entrepreneur can face—from funding to customer support—I’ve encountered challenges with them all! I have learned that these challenges are NOT indicators that I am on the wrong path but opportunistic signals for me to pause and make a decision. In the face of challenges like these, I’ve had to choose either to take time away from my business and learn a new skill, or level-up and lean in on the fine art of delegation so that my business can scale.

What I offer and what I do is different from others in my niche, because of who I am. Yes, there are other personal brand coaches out there and some of them may even offer similar products and services, but none of them have my unique set of knowledge, skills, abilities and experiences. That’s what’s so great about personal branding. It forces you to truly tap into who you are and leverage those qualities to separate you and your business from everyone else in the marketplace. When personal branding is done effectively, your vibe truly does attract YOUR tribe.

Personal branding is more than a buzzword. It’s more than a trend. Personal branding is becoming THE determining factor as to whether a company hires you or a prospective client chooses to work with you. If you are not actively using strategies to optimize and accelerate your personal brand you’re missing out of opportunities. You’re missing opportunities to build your network off and online. You’re missing opportunities to attract the RIGHT clients and customers to your business, and you’re missing opportunities to get premium pricing for your products and services.

At the end of the day, I have had my fair share of success in my business—and it’s all because I got serious about my personal brand. And while on the surface personal branding can seem pretentious, it is actually quite the opposite. I teach my clients that in order to have any amount of success with your personal brand it MUST come from a selfless place. So, what I do is not about me. I am on a mission to help as many women as possible develop, grow and maintain their personal brand so that they can achieve their own levels of success. As an effort to support my mission, I offer a free Masterclass that teaches my four-step framework to help women accelerate their personal brand. You can learn more about it on my website.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Is this during the pandemic or after 😂 Given the times we are currently in, we’d start our day with a hike in the Garden of the Gods then we’d stick around the Springs and hit up my favorite Jamaican restaurant for lunch. After lunch, we’d hit I-25 North and go home to rest. That evening we’d order in take-out from a local spot and wine down on my patio. Maybe light up the fire pit if it’s chilly. The next day we’d hit up Denver and check out the museums, grab lunch at my favorite soul food restaurant and head back to the house for another relaxing evening at home. This time instead of wining down, we’d set up a movie night in my backyard complete with a giant inflatable screen, popcorn and all the movie fixins. For the rest of the week, I’d make sure we spent our day taking in Denver’s most beautiful attractions.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have not gotten to this place in my business alone and I’d like to dedicate this shoutout to my family. My husband and my daughters are the real MVPs. They hold it down for me, support me and encourage me. They are my biggest fans—even when it seems like I’m not “winning.”
