We had the good fortune of connecting with Nikolay Kibkalo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nikolay, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Once I lost a job, just because company lost a contract and I realized, I always want to control my live and my job and income

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
The journey to where I am now took me five years. I think this is an average time for an artist and a business to reach a decent level. Starting out was tough. I had to juggle two jobs while studying drawing, learning how to communicate with people to clearly identify their needs, and studying how advertising and Instagram work. I also analyzed the works of other artists, trying to understand their concepts.

The lesson I’ve learned from my journey is that no one understands what you do better than you, and most of the organizational work should be done by yourself. Nowadays, a tattoo artist is not just someone who creates tattoos; they also create content, handle advertising, communicate with clients, and search for new ones.

From the very beginning, my main rule has been to do everything as well as possible and pay attention to every stage of the process. For me, tattooing is an art, and at the same time, it is something very important on the body of each person who gets one. I strive to impress my clients, to truly understand their requests, and to give them exactly what they want.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Definitely I will show them Rocky Mountains and Estes park. In Denver area I will show them Morison and Red rocks amphitheater. Denver art museum. For food I’ll show them MAKfam and Katsu ramen.
I don’t drink, so unfortunately I don’t know where people usually drink 🙂

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have a friend, Bohdan Boiko, who has supported me from the very beginning. He initially believed in me and continues to celebrate my achievements. I was also very happy to meet two tattoo artists who helped me learn a lot.
