We had the good fortune of connecting with Nina Marie and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nina, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Choosing to pursue a creative career was definitely not something that I planned to do. After years of owning a healing business, writing kind of fell in my lap. I had to close my business. I was supplementing my income making witchy bath bombs and I was trying to find a “real” job when the Universe started screaming at me, “Hey! You’ve got a story to tell!” I was super hesitant about it at first. Like, who cares what I have to say? Who would want to read something that I wrote? But it consumed me, almost as if my life depended on writing that story. All these years spent on working on my own healing and helping others to heal led up to this moment. And now, almost a year later, I have three books published and another on the way in July. It’s been nothing short of amazing. It certainly felt as if it was Divine timing for a creative career to blossom.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am an independently published romance author based out of Colorado. Some of my romance novels are based on my own personal past life regressions or moments of healing and clarity. I won’t lie- there was definitely a muse. I think one thing that I’m most proud about is that I’m actually a published author who has sold books! I think that’s a pretty big accomplishment as an Indie author. But what I’m really excited about it my upcoming book Unexpectedly Yours. I absolutely loved writing it and I can’t wait for it’s release in July making it an official ‘Hot Summer Read’.
I think getting where I am today took a lot of perseverance. There were times I wanted to give up, times I hated what I was writing, days that I would put off writing because I didn’t know where to go next. Right now I’m working on another novel that kind of jumps back and forth between the past and the present. The past was awful and traumatic and in the present, the female main character is healing from the past and living her best life. I love writing about the present for her, but man- the past is killing me and I’m currently stuck on what happens next. So that means procrastinating and doing anything but writing. It’s a terrible habit.
I think what ultimately helps me in these situations though is to take time away. I like to take baths or sit outside to ground and clear my mind and then meditate on the story. Most of the time that does the trick. But when it doesn’t, I’ll occupy my time writing short stories- nothing for anyone else to read, but to keep the creativity flowing.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting for a week, I’d most certainly take them hiking (after they were acclimated, of course). We’d probably head up to Lost Lake for a day hike and then stop in Nederland for Backcountry Pizza and a beer. Of course we’d need to head downtown on the train and visit Tattered Cover, grab some coffee from Pigtrain Coffee Co and then maybe Maggiano’s for dinner. Probably a day in Boulder on Pearl Street while grabbing Falafel King for lunch. And, if I was feeling super ambitious, a day in Estes Park and an overnight at the Stanley Hotel- because what friend wouldn’t enjoy a night of ghosts?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people who deserve a shout-out for their love and support! First my family, for listening to me ramble continuously about plot twists and research. For dealing with my late nights and forgotten dinners and for when I go into hermit mode- aka writing mode.
Second shout-out has to go to my readers because without YOU I wouldn’t be here. You’ve helped me to become a better writer, you’ve helped to boost my confidence with your amazing reviews and feedback and most importantly, you keep me on my toes- thinking about what I’m going to write next. Believe me, I know how blessed I am to have you and I’m so grateful for each and every one of you!
Last, I need to thank the people who inspire me- fellow indie authors, traditionally published authors, creatives who have left a mark on my heart that helps me to continue to dream big and keep writing. Art has forever inspired art- whether it’s feeling motivated after reading a great book or seeing a movie that puts me in my feels, it keeps me moving forward.
