We had the good fortune of connecting with Nisa Harnum and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Nisa, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
We believe authenticity has been the secret to our success. We often find ourselves working with people who are going through significant life changes, feeling anxious, and dealing with high levels of stress. Whether they are unwell, too busy with work, or adjusting to a major life change such as moving into a new home or welcoming a new baby (or sometimes both at once!), their belongings can easily find themselves in disarray.
As a result, our clients can feel overwhelmed and vulnerable, especially considering that we handle all their personal possessions and enter their most personal space – their homes. It can be a big step for them to ask for help, and even more so to expose their deepest vulnerabilities to strangers.
Our team’s authenticity, sincerity, and non-judgmental approach become evident as we work through the boxes, piles, and partially finished projects keeping in mind that their current situation is just a small snapshot in the grand scheme of their life. Our sorting and organizing process brings our clients clarity, and as we start assigning homes to their items, we can visibly see the anxiety and stress begin to fade away.
And through the sincerity of our team, we create a safe and reassuring environment where people can feel comfortable being themselves and making the best decisions for their families and homes. Ultimately, this brings peace and tranquility back into their homes.
We hold on to this authenticity not only in our interactions with clients but also within our entire business. Our team, how we hire and our marketing efforts are all based on a foundation of genuineness and authenticity, reflecting our true company culture.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I didn’t always want to be an organizer growing up. I didn’t even know it was an option until after college when the industry started getting more fame. I job-hopped for a bit and even when I settled I wasn’t thrilled. Finally, when I got into organizing I realized looking back that my favorite part of any job/schooling I had was organizing it. Making it more efficient, and making things easier and look cleaner. It lowered my stress and helped the work ethic of everyone around me. I realized organizing can make a clear and immediate impact on the world.
When I met Keli, we very quickly realized how much we enjoyed organizing together and that if we teamed up we could do big things for others. After we started to become more successful, we needed more people to join in. Hiring quickly became a focus of ours to not only fill the position but to add to our family. We had lessons to learn along the way, but today our team is our biggest strength and success, and it is our proudest business achievement.
We have created a culture that puts people first. From team members and clients; to business operations, we support people. We meet people where they are and lead without judgment, which can be often associated with organizing. Many people think we will just come in and throw all their things away, but that is not our process and never will be, because people are the most important aspect of our work.
Our team is full of people with positive, diligent attitudes and a servant’s heart. We want to leave behind kindness for everyone who comes in our path and we do that every day.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love this question – because I actually have created an itinerary for when friends come to visit. I guess as an organizer planning the list for others is just as fun as experiencing it. I have too many things on my list for just a week, so I will list out my Denver favorites…
Food/Drinks:
1. Stanley Marketplace – near me and enough choices for everyone to choose something different. Plus being in old airport hanger it adds a little to the history lesson.
2. Blanco – one of the best chimichangas I’ve ever had.
3. Casa Bonita – a Denver classic. With the South Park redo – it’s even better.
Experiences:
1. Red Rocks – for a show or not, it’s a site to see.
2. Coors Brewery Tour – get to visit Golden and a classic well-known brewing company.
3. Devil’s Head Lookout – I’m not a huge hiker, but this hike is easy and the views are incredible.
Free Parks:
1. City park – in the middle of the city and near Colfax and the Denver Zoo, you can easily add on to the day if everyone is up for it.
2. The Rocky Mountain Arsenal – there is a wildlife drive you can take and see an incredible view of the mountains and may even see some buffalo up close.
3. Bluff Lake – a quick loop, that has lots of different plants, birds, and other creatures. My husband and I even saw a beaver once!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business partner, Keli Jakel, has a lot to say about my success. She is an incredible mentor and friend. She teaches me things beyond the business and beyond organizing. How to lead a team, how to care truly for others and how to see life in a different perspective. For the last 4 years we have been doing this together I am so grateful. I am lucky to have found her and started the journey with her rather than ever trying to run at it alone.
Of course, my husband Jordan. Always supportive of me in all the new “projects” I take on or at least think I can take on. I decided to quit the 6 year Physical Therapy career journey I was on, 1 week before we got married to start an organizing business and he of course was my biggest fan and still is. xoxo.
Finally, God. He gave me the ability to see spaces differently, to organize and serve others and to love others when it matters most. He also equipped me with determination and patience to turn big projects into smaller ones and to finish them. Best of all, he gave me a spirit of calm and in the most overwhelming of projects we always find a way to see the light.
