We had the good fortune of connecting with Noelle Scolieri, M.S. CCC-SLP and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Noelle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My goal in starting ANSLP2B was to document my journey throughout graduate school as a future Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP), and now being an SLP and having gone through the process, to share information and tips for future SLPs and current graduate students. Each time I create a product or content for my social media pages, I usually have one thing in mind: what do I wish someone had told me when I was in their shoes? My page is full of all the resources that I wish I had as an SLP to be. My desire is to encourage, inspire and support current graduate students during their journey.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Question: What sets you apart from others?
Answer: I think when I do my mentorship sessions with current undergrad and graduate students, I’d like to think I bring a sense of calm and hope to them. I like to lead with gentle strength and honesty, which I’ve come to realize helps to put my mentees at ease. It’s been so fulfilling for me to get to see these students throughout their grad school process and now seeing them graduating and succeeding in their goals.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I really enjoy hanging out with friends at wineries or places where we can taste wines and slow down the crazy-busy pace of life and just talk for a bit.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One thing that really turned my personal graduate school journey around was finding @thanksmorris on Instagram. She makes these beautiful gratitude journals with prompts that help you focus on gratitude. Grad school is a stressful and overwhelming time full of deadlines and busy schedules and heavy workloads. But, taking a few minutes each day to turn my thoughts around and focus on the things I had to be grateful for made the tough days feel not quite so challenging. Perspective is everything! Focusing on gratitude during my grad school days was such a helpful habit that I’m so thankful I got into!
