We had the good fortune of connecting with Nora Claire and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Nora, what role has risk played in your life or career?
We are constantly navigating risk. Day in and day out. About five years ago I looked around at my life and the people in it. I noticed who was taking risks and who wasn’t. I began to understand why people might take risks in some areas of their lives and not in other areas and I began to understand how vastly different the definition of risk is to each individual person. In some aspects of my life, I took risks. I traveled alone in foreign countries, I didn’t work a 9-5 job, I explored ways of living that many people never would, I tried all kinds of alternative health modalities for my wellbeing… and yet I was terrified of taking REAL risks when it came to pursuing a purposeful career. Three years ago, I decided to change that pattern. I moved to Denver. I applied for and turned down low-paying, non-creative job offers even though I had no plan and no financial support system. I decided to move from fear into possibility and everything changed. Within three months I met Jason Shepherd and Jared Marquette. Three months after that we launched Archipelago Clubs. Three years after that and we’re still here, going strong and with big plans on how to continue making a positive impact in the world.

What should our readers know about your business?
Archipelago is a social club committed to helping people grow and connect through meaningful experiences. At Archipelago, you have the opportunity to explore wellness modalities, learn new skills, have interesting conversations, and cultivate life-long friendships. Members of Archipelago are artists, teachers, tech wizards, wellness practitioners, entrepreneurs and business professionals, all dedicated to fostering personal growth and weaving more interconnected, vibrant networks. What sets us apart? Our People, our Places, our Programs (events) and our Team. Our team–we all have very different, but very necessary and applicable strengths. In the early days of Archipelago, we knew that our pillars were going to be People, Places, and Programs. Our founding team each fit perfectly in one of those categories, and, we believe, is better positioned to lead that charge than anyone else, anywhere. I ran wellness programming for one of the most successful experiential event organizations in the country, Jason runs an incredibly dynamic real estate company, and Jared spent years building people-driven communities across the country at one of the country’s largest venture capital firms. Our Places–our clubhouses have transformed unused or underutilized commercial real estate into beautiful gathering spaces where we get to celebrate, grieve, dance, play, laugh, cry, share our personal experiences and hopefully become a little bit better each time we leave. Our Programs we host weekly classes focused on personal growth such as breathwork, authentic relating, fitness classes, hot/cold therapy, business breakfasts + more. Our weekly events focus on social connection and include happy hours, movie nights, dinner gatherings, live music, and dance parties.

Lessons we’ve learned- Make decisions, try new things, adapt, pivot, accept criticism, ask for feedback and make integrated changes because of it. Be willing to make mistakes and know that the journey of creating something is a constant dance; sometimes you stumble but you’ll find your grace again. What we want the world to know– having a community is absolutely vital for true wellbeing. It might just be the most important thing in your life. Having a community will challenge you, support you, love you, and encourage you to grow each day. Your journey is your own but there is support for you along the way when you are a part of a community.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many amazing people, mentors, teachers, and organizations that have had a lasting impact on who I am today. I am super grateful for the team of amazing humans and specifically badass womxn I worked with at Summit Series. The intentional community in Ecuador, Comuna de Rhianon, for fortifying my love of community building and showing me what it means to live intentionally with others and the land. Huge shoutout to Jason + Jared for taking the chance on working with me when they barely knew me, Sydney for giving her ALL to this project, and the utmost respect, humility, and gratitude for my mentors and teachers I’ve met on this journey.
