We had the good fortune of connecting with Owen Walters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Owen, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I had the idea to create my own business when I started thinking of the life I wanted to live later on in life. I knew by just being in the classic rat race, I would never make it where I wanted to be. That’s when I thought of creating my own business, I didn’t know what I would do or provide, all I knew was I wanted to be self sufficient.

And that’s when it started, I knew I wanted to make a handmade product, I just wasn’t sure what I could possibly make. And so I made a list: Candles, Soaps, Coasters, Furniture. That was my original list. I then crossed things off the list that I didn’t feel I could do. And so I landed on soap.

I knew the soap market was absolutely ginormous, and I also knew I wouldn’t make it anywhere by providing the same exact products everyone else makes. So I did my research, a lot of it in fact. I probably researched this soap topic for a solid month before I did anything else. My research included how to make soap, safety while making soap, and other business topics.

After this I landed on the idea of making the best soap money could buy, only including the most necessary ingredients in it (not including colors, and designs), and also making it affordable as well in order to have everyone be able to buy my soap.

As time went on this idea went from making maybe $1,000 total, to shooting past this goal and realizing this idea could be massive. And that’s when I realized I stumbled on something massive.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a full time Senior in Highschool, family member, and significant other. I don’t have a formal job, Mo & Co keeps me busy. It hasn’t been easy keeping up with all of these things but somehow I’ve done an incredible job managing all of these things.

I’ve learned and am still learning how Important it is to have balance in your life, you shouldn’t worship one thing too much, as it will always affect other aspects of your life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Longmont and I’m all about food. So of course all of my suggestions are going to be restaurants I like. I would suggest going to Rosalee’s Pizzeria, and The Roost. These are my favorites for Longmont. And for the Denver side of things, I absolutely love the nature and science museum, aquarium and Zoo. I know everyone probably recommends these but seriously they’re great.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout the book “Rich Dad Poor Dad”. This book totally changed my method of thinking about business. It literally spun my life around into thinking solely about business, money, and opportunities.
