We had the good fortune of connecting with Paige Cloyd and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Paige, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
I believe the decision to be a lifelong learner has not only helped my professional career but my personal life as well. From deciding to go to graduate school, to continuing to participate in various training opportunities, to even learning new skills on the side in my personal life (sewing!), choosing to continue my education and growth has allowed myself to open doors to be successful in many areas.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started Reflective Counseling PLLC back in February of this year. I’ve received specialized training in early childhood and infant mental health and I wanted a way to reach these populations through my business. My focus is on early childhood aged children (0-5 year-olds) and their caregivers. I work to support families therapeutically by increasing caregiver’s confidence, reflective capacity (their ability to reflect on their own internal experiences and the internal experience of their child), as well as support caregivers in processing their own attachment dynamics and how they were raised.

I’ve found that patterns of generational trauma within family system often stem from parenting styles and attachment dynamics. For better or for worse, we parent how our parents parented! Some parents wish to make changes to how they were raised but do not know where to begin. By understanding your own attachment as a caregiver and then reflecting on how that impacts their child and their internal experience, the caregiver can gain a lot of insight as to how to attune to their child and create a healthy, loving relationship. Seeing families thrive and support generational change is what keeps me motivated and excited as a therapist.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am in Arvada so some of my favorite spots are right in my backyard! I’d love to take my friends on a hike in Golden, get breakfast burritos at Bonfire Burritos, and maybe float down Clear Creek in the afternoon. I’d love to ride bikes from my place in Arvada along the Ralston Creek trail to some of my favorite breweries and restaurants (Colorado Tap House, Denver Beer Co, and Teocalli to name a few).

If we had the chance to get out of town, a weekend trip up to Indian Peaks Wilderness would definitely be on the list. I love to backpack or camp in the area, going on hikes to see some of my favorite peaks and alpine lakes in Colorado.

I’d also love to go to a concert at the Denver Botanic Gardens if they had someone playing in the summer concert series!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have found a lot of support over the years from my internship supervisor in graduate school, Rebecca Smith Tucker. She has been a huge advocate, encourager, and mentor to me over the years as I’ve gained experience as a therapist. I wish everyone had a ‘Rebecca’ in their lives and in their career!
