We had the good fortune of connecting with Pam Vagnieres, MS, MNT and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Pam, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?

Letting my child be creative and make choices for himself, then being supportive of those creative choices vs trying to lead or steer him “as a parent”.

The whole reason I started my own business was so I could make time to be with my child as I raised him. If I stayed in a job where I could not make my own hours, I’d have missed so much quality time as a mother. Being a mother was, by far, the best thing I’ve ever done.

What should our readers know about your business?

I do so many things it’s difficult to mention them all. Maybe that’s what sets me apart from others. I have a multi-disciplinary approach to helping people get (and stay) healthy. I want my clients to LOVE the food they eat, LOVE the exercise they do, and LOVE how they feel when they get healthy so they stick with their new healthy lifestyle. The key is to continue forever on a healthy path, but we won’t do that if we don’t fall in love with it.

Here’s a breakdown of what I do with clients.

Nutrition – Consultation
I do Nutrition Consultations to help lower the risk of disease, improve health and energy. I look into the clients’ health history, current lab work and diagnosis, then develop a plan to help reduce or eliminate chronic pain and inflammation. The goal is to stabilize or reverse autoimmune disease, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, digestive disorders, menopause and more. I work with referrals from local doctors as well as Dr. Diana Schwarzbein, Endocrinologist in California, who has authored 5 books. Her clients come from all over the world.

Nutrition – Healthy Cooking Classes
I help my client put their nutrition plan into action in the kitchen. I help them learn to make healthy food taste delicious, quickly and easily. Even clients that hate to cook and have no time, will have an easy, healthy plan they can follow. In a Cooking Class, I demonstrate cool kitchen tools I use to save prep time. I discuss the nutrients and phytochemicals in the foods we use and how they affect our genes, lower the risk of disease, boost immunity, lower cholesterol, balance blood sugar, improve energy and overall health. It’s important to know “why” a food is healthy as well as “how” to make it delicious when choosing to live a healthy lifestyle.

Nutrition – Grocery Tours
Grocery stores have many healthy foods at your finger tips! As we all know, they also carry many unhealthy processed foods.  On a grocery tour, I help people with food allergies find foods they can eat.  I teach how to read a nutrition label to determine protein, carb, sugar and fat content for special diets.  We find healthy alternatives to products people like to eat.  We find delicious healthy, ready made products to make life easy for busy people who don’t have time to cook.

Exercise Programs
I’ve trained Olympic athletes and folks just out of surgery.  I design exercise programs for high level athletes training for events. I help people with injuries and post surgery safely return to exercise. I help people with osteoporosis, muscle wasting, weakness, and other health issues become stronger and more flexible. My programs include “true” core strengthening, posture and alignment, periodization, proprioception, kinesthetics and balance work, all of which should be included in a good exercise program. Programs may include a gym program, home exercise program and/or a “Toning Hike” on the gorgeous Colorado trails.

Corporate Wellness
I teach “Wellness Seminars” on nutrition topics, exercise, healthy cooking and injury prevention at companies all over the Denver metro area. I also do Ergonomic Assessments and teach Structured Fidgeting exercise programs to prevent pain and injury to workers.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

We’d spend most of our time outdoors.  We’d go for bike rides all over the metro-area including the Boulder Creek trail, Loveland Loop, Longmont trails, Arvada Ralston Creek trail and we’d head up to Summit County and ride from Keystone to Vail and around Lake Dillon and up to Breckenridge. Then we’d be tired and need to eat! I’m a fan of gluten free bakeries. My favorite is Button Rock in Lafayette, and Windy Saddle in Golden. I love Moxie and Waterloo in Louisville, and Tip Top Savory Pies in Lafayette. We’d go hiking in the Boulder Foothills, hit coffee shops and wine bars.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

First, I’d have to thank my mother for inspiring an interest in health and nutrition in me. She was a “health nut” before it was popular, she read all of Adelle Davis’ books on nutrition and provided healthy gourmet food as I was growing up.

My family’s love and encouragement means the world to me. I wouldn’t be where I am without it. My son has inspired me to work hard, stay dedicated to my business, and keep the passion for my work alive. Wait, I thought the parent was suppose to inspire the child! My son has expertise in social media marketing, and films and edits my recent YouTube videos.  He’s been very helpful to me marketing the business.

My mentors deserve credit in my story. I have learned an incredible amount from several integrative medicine physicians I have worked with over the years. To work in this field, we need to continually study the science to stay current with the research.
