We had the good fortune of connecting with Pamela Mikesell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Pamela, we’d love to hear what makes you happy.
I get so much joy from see all the customers sitting back, relaxing, socializing with complete strangers. The courtyard comes alive when we have live music. The crowds that it brings in is just amazing to see. People love to sit and enjoy the music and I have the best view of Pikes Peak (Americas Mountain) in town. We are a dog friendly establishment so many of our customers bring their dogs. I actually even bought my dog Louis Vuitton in our courtyard.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I have 4 kids, 3 dogs and an amazing husband. My husband worked really hard so that I could be a Stay At Home Mom and raise the kids. After the kids were older we decided to purchase a building in Woodland Park that had an amazing courtyard. I opened a women’s boutique called Miss Priss and rented out all the other spaces in the building. Then one of the spaces became available so I took over that space to make it a Social Gathering place where you could get some food, hand crafted cocktails and sit in the courtyard with an amazing view of Pikes Peak. I ran both businesses for a 1 year and had to make the hard decision to sell Miss Priss. I realized I was needed more at 110 Reserve and the business was taking off and very successful. Since I had more time and could focus more on 110 Reserve I started hosting events, 4th of July, Octoberfest, Winterfest, Cinco De Mayo even Texas Independence day, Which was a huge success. With the help of my staff we have been the go to place for any holiday event. I host live music every Friday night and Saturday and Karaoke. We have won multiple 1st place awards for Best of Teller County. It hasn’t been easy at all but with the support of all my staff and the willingness they have to see my vision has just been the best thing I have ever experienced owning my own business.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would have breakfast at Snooze in COS, Hungry Bear in Woodland Park and Grand Mothers Kitchen in Woodland Park. Those are all my favorite breakfast places. Take a drive through Garden of the Gods maybe do some hiking there. Hike around Red Rocks in Woodland Park and Muller state Park in Divide. Have lunch at Suggas in COS and sit in their courtyard. If we are lucky Justin will have his Grilled Cheese food truck around Teller county. Drive through Green Moutain falls making our way up to Teller County. First stop would be Cripple Creek for some fun gambling then to see Rita the statue. The Wolf Wildlife sanctuary in Divide, And of course stop at 110 Reserve for dinner and cocktails.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to recognize Ms. Erica, my Manager and the rest of the 110 Reserve staff. Ms. Erica had the knowledge of running a successful restaurant and I could not have done this without her. My staff is the most loyal, hardworking staff. They have all met so many locals here and become close friends with. They will always go above and beyond to represent me, the owner of 110 Reserve, the business and their selves well.
