We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Marcotte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I feel a sense of purpose in using my Photography to inspire and connect with other people. I have met so many people through my photography that I have inspired and that have inspired me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am definitely most excited about Wildlife photography but I also enjoy Astro, Landscape, Extreme weather and Portrait Photography.
Being a professional photographer definitely has its challenges. To those aspiring photographers I would suggest taking any job you are offered even if it’s not a great paying gig just so you can build your portfolio, I would also suggest not quitting your day job until you are established.
As far as my brand or what I am most well-known for is the variety of Wildlife I am fortune enough to photograph.
I really am blessed by what I believe is Devine intervention it helps living in Colorado too and if you really keep your eyes open you will be surprised by how much wildlife you will see even in urban settings.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If I had a friend visiting and they wanted to get a quick taste of Colorado during their 1 week visit this would be our itinerary.
Day 1 – We start with a quick tour of Rocky Mountain National Park by driving up Old Fall River road stopping at Chasm Falls and then on to the Alpine visitor center. We would then take Trail Ridge road (The highest continuous road in North America back down to Estes Park for some great Mexican food at Ed’s Cantina and Check into the Historic Stanley Hotel, Room 401 of course and Catch an amazing show at Aiden Sinclair’s Underground.
Day 2 – We head down to Boulder and have Breakfast at Snooze AM eatery then stroll the Pearl Street Mall followed by a Drive up Flagstaff Mountain before heading to the Morrison Inn and then catch a show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
Day 3 – Down to the Great Sand dunes stopping in Pueblo at 21 Steak to fuel up before for a hike up to Zapata Falls then catching Sunset and hanging out in the Great Sand Dunes until the amazing Milkyway makes an appearance.
Day 4 – We head to Mesa Verde National Park to check out the Cliff dwellings which are the most amazing Archeological site in Colorado.
We then go into Cortez and Eat at The Farm Bistro before turning in for the night.
Day – 5 We go to Durango to ride the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad followed by a great meal at Chimayo Stone Fired Kitchen.
Day 6 – We drive up to Breckenridge and stroll downtown ending up at Après Handcrafted Libations for a couple cocktails then off to dinner at Ember for some Global cuisine.
Day 7 – We head to Denver and have lunch at the newly renovated Casa Bonita (Where my Wife was once a Cliff Diver) then down to Union Station where my friend boards a train to DIA to catch their flight home.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One night while I was outside of Coors field to Photograph Fireworks another Photographer, Jeremy Janus came up to me and struck up a conversation with me about Photography and which settings to use when shooting Fireworks. We exchanged our Instagram information and each went about our night.
The following day when I checked out his Instagram I was in awe of his page.
We started commenting on each others photos and decided to meet up to go shot up in Rocky Mountain National Park.
Jeremy told me he quit his corporate gig to peruse a full-time job as a Landscape Photographer . He took a giant leap of faith to follow his dream and has been so encouraging and supportive of my Photography and I cant thank him enough for that
