We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsey Rubens and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsey, can you talk to us a bit about the social impact of your business?
Do Over Dogs rescues dogs from death row at overcrowded animal shelters. We love helping animals in need, which in turn changes the lives of families that are able to adopt these loving 4 legged pooches. Our pups that have become service animals and therapy dogs have positively impacted the community.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a licensed mental health professional by day who works with incarcerated adolescents and young adults. During my “free time”, I co-run Do Over Dogs rescue. Running a rescue is one of the toughest unpaid jobs out there with some of the biggest rewards. We are different from other organizations due to our focus, we love helping injured, sick, neglected, and abandoned dogs. We also focus on the misrepresented breeds- “Pitbulls” especially. Along the way, I have learned that kindness is always the best option, be a voice for the voiceless, and education is our best weapon. Also, never give up- one person can and has changed this world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d start out hiking at Roxborough State Park in Littleton, and make our way over to happy hour or lunch at Torchy’s or Postinos. A night out in South Broadway Denver enjoying illegal Pete’s, punch bowl social, and voodoo donuts would be next on the agenda. Maybe a trip up to Larimer Square to check out a winery or grab food at the Denver Central Market. Followed by a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park over the weekend and a tour of the Stanley Hotel. We’d head to Boulder to do a flatirons hike, and enjoy dinner at Avanti’s rooftop. Breakfast at The Buff in the morning, Followed by Breckenridge after, stopping at Cheba Hut in Dillon for lunch. We’d take a trip down 285, staying in Buena Vista to white water raft too. Then we’d head down to the Telluride to enjoy a ride on the gondola, hiking, and some delicious food at Brown Dog pizza!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shout out is to my partner Christie with Do Over Dogs, for giving me the opportunity to live out my passion. Without her, this world would be a different place. Her kindness and compassion is inspiring, and she motivates me to keep going.
