Hi Philip, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was driven by a combination of factors. My military background, a desire for independence, and a passion for providing reliable, high-quality service to my community. After serving 23.5 years in the military, I wanted to transition into something that allowed me to build something of my own while still maintaining the discipline, structure, and leadership skills I developed over the years.
I chose ProLift Garage Doors because the industry offers a blend of hands-on technical work and customer service, both of which align with my strengths. I saw a need for trustworthy, professional garage door services in Colorado Springs, and I wanted to be part of a business that values integrity and customer satisfaction.
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets us apart is our commitment to quality workmanship, honest pricing, and exceptional customer service. We don’t just fix garage doors—we provide peace of mind by ensuring our customers feel safe and confident in the reliability of their doors.
One of the things I’m most proud of is how we’ve built our reputation on trust and professionalism. We prioritize education over sales, meaning we take the time to explain the problem, walk our customers through their options, and never upsell unnecessary services. We stand by our work with warranties and always strive to exceed expectations.
We had to refine our approach, test different strategies, and constantly adjust to maximize our return on investment.
Through these challenges, we’ve learned several key lessons:
Customer service is everything – Word-of-mouth referrals and repeat business come from treating people right.
Marketing requires patience and constant optimization – What works today might not work tomorrow, so staying flexible and data-driven is critical.
A strong support system matters – Having my wife, Andrea, as my business partner has been invaluable in staying focused and pushing forward during turbulent times.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The person I want to give the biggest shoutout to is my wife and business partner, Andrea. From day one, she has been my rock offering unwavering support, encouragement, and a level-headed perspective when things get tough. Starting and running a business is no easy task, but having Andrea by my side has made all the difference. She brings incredible insight, organization, and a drive that pushes both of us to keep growing and improving. She’s also the face of our business at our local Business Network International (BNI) group, Dynamic Alliances. She handles most of the administrative work and serves as a reminder for me to appreciate how far we’ve come.
Beyond just business, she has been my sounding board, my motivator, and the one who keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes. Running ProLift Garage Doors of East Colorado Springs is a team effort, and I couldn’t ask for a better partner—both in business and in life. So, if there’s anyone who deserves recognition in this journey, it’s her.
