We had the good fortune of connecting with Porsha DeMarco Douglas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Porsha, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I believe that one thing that most people are unaware of when you become a performer is the sense of losing yourself. What I mean by that is we spend so much time creating and developing our characters and making sure that they are what we want to present to the world and being that larger than life personas and it becomes an expectation to some when your out and about. So now when meeting people you actually start to act like your persona everyday and no lie it starts to become a lot.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When I first started performing almost 20yrs ago there were no entertainers that looked like me in my area (other black entertainers). So learning to do makeup and such was kinda hard. But through the power of persistence, I taught myself to do my own makeup, I can do basic wig styling and make a costume if needed. One of the things i’ve learned over the years is “Not everyone that comes with you can go with you” and that means the people that come into your life all have different paths to take. Just because your paths may have crossed and stayed a similar course doesn’t mean they have the same destination your path is yours! My path has led me to be able to run in National pageants, travel the US, perform in some of the biggest shows here in Denver, become an Activist and so much more. There is so much more in store for me and i honestly can’t wait to see where it leads me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh hunny lets go!!! Everyone knows that I like to eat so there are several places we are going if friends and family were to visit. First off y’all know i love me some seafood so the first place we are going is to Yabby Hut!! You buy it by the pound and we are gonna dig in. Another amazing place I like to eat is at Kyu Ramen. Always get me a D.I.Y Bowl and go to town. Now if we are going out to have a cocktail or two, the first stop on my list is Xbar. There is always something going on so there is always some form of entertainment. They got some awesome shows that you gotta catch like my good judy ” The Good Juice” Juiccy Misdemeanor host a bomb show called X-Factor, Miss Zarah Misdemeanor host XYZ, There is a show called F*%K Boy Friday host by Kaptain and Dustin to name a few so the tip around is real. Next up is The Brunch Gigs to get you right. Im going to one place lol and thats Hamburger Mary’s. The shows there are always a great time you get good food, great drinks and a Drag show…. who could ask for more!! Now another spot I would def. take my friends if they are in town at the right time is TRACKS for Drag Nation now you might see me in the show you might not but its def. an experience. Next up would be Meow Wolf. No more words needed lol just go. There are so many different things to do in Denver you just gotta find what you like.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people that have helped me reach my goals and helped me get to where i am now. My sister Ashley is my biggest supporter. She allowed me to raid her closet until I was able to afford to get my own stuff. My parents may not always have understood what I was doing in the beginning but they have done a full 180 and they absolutely love it now. Hell my mom and I have video calls every now and then to go over makeup and she will ask me questions about how to do certain looks. I have so many friends that have boosted me up when i thought i couldn’t. Alex Valdez, Gemini Skye, The Cast of Stripped, Jessica L’Whor, Kaptain Inherpants, Juiccy Misdemeanor, Ginger Douglas and Jacob Principle my drag parents, The Iconic House of NINJA, My drag family, Tracks Denver, Hamburger Marys, Club Q where I got my start to name a few off the top of my head.
