We had the good fortune of connecting with R-mata & 6PM6PAG LowerEastsideUnderground and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi R-mata & 6PM6PAG, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
two friends on a mission to make Lower Eastside UnderGround a special place where people come network, and hear some of the best music around the world. Growing up in the city of Cincinnati we had to figure out a way to connect artists its old fashioned, the communities don’t embrace urban art so we went digital. While on this journey of showcasing talent we’ve ran into a lot of people who inspire and motivate us to keep going.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We been friends for the past 15 years and we’re both lovers of hip hop so we started off just freestyling in the garage joking around until one day a buddy we both knew suggested we took music serious and really try to put out songs. So we took his advice, 6PM6PAG had a home studio he was in the process of building so once it was complete we made our first legit track “Mystery” and were instantly local legends. Whenever we went around the eastside of town people would comment on the song and ask us to collaborate before we knew it we had so many people coming to us for Advice,Pictures/Videos, General knowledge about the music industry, and more. We realized that maybe this was our calling to help other artists with their craft plus we really enjoy seeing artist develop and always had people help us get to where we at today so how could we possibly tell them no. The hardest challenge was being in the city of Cincinnati it doesn’t embrace urban art whatsoever, it made us think outside the box and figure out a way to showcase talent digitally. We want people to see the LowerEastside logo and know the brand is all about Art. Yes we would love to be a major hub for talent scouts down the line or just a major filming company but we definitely appreciate the fans who are deeply interested in underground art so the creators can get the rewards/credit they’ve earned. Overall we’re just happy to be a tool for any originator of any kind to help them with their artistry.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well first off we’d take them to the Eastside of town and show them the “Everybody Records” that’s iconic in the city and where we had our very first poster and project “The Chronicles of A&R” for sale (it was free actually lol). then we’d shoot down to Oakley a neighborhood which is maybe like 10 mins away to the “UnderWorld”(what we call it). It’s really just underneath a bridge with a bunch of concrete slabs where skaters and 100’s of street artist have tagged all kinds of images. Next would be a Mexican food truck maybe 5 mins from the previous spot to enjoy some of the best quesadillas and Tacos around or we can always enjoy some Hometown Larosa’s pizza which is literally next to it. Now how much of a friend would we be if our buddy didn’t come to HQ (our studio) and jam out, brainstorm ideas, or just relax and enjoy each others company. For the most part the city is basically set up in 2 ways Eastside and Westside or Uptown and Downtown. Now the Eastside where we grew up is mostly residential and family businesses plus it’s home to Kenwood Mall the most luxurious and chill hot spot in the city for hanging out since the 80’s. The Westside is definitely more blue collar to say the least, besides late night recreational sports and laser tag it’s not much to see you’ll find a lot of abandon property out there. Downtown I guess would be considered like any other downtown in a city we could go to museums, galleries, car shows if in town, bars, casino or just enjoy walking across the Purple People bridge admiring the Ohio River. Uptown to me is the heart of the city it’s home to many schools, universities, studios, magnificent housing, and plenty more its where we definitely spend most of our time if not cruising throughout the whole city.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We’d like to shout out all the Artists,Producers,Videographers, and Creators that allowed us to showcase their talents to the world. We also appreciate all the people who take time out of their day to check out the countless content on our website and would love for them to get all the recognition its the reason we do this.
