We had the good fortune of connecting with torie Egger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi torie, what habits do you feel play an important role in your life?
My biggest habit with my business is editing photos right after the session. I am able to get my edits out faster doing this. I’m also usually more motivated to edit right after I finish a session. Another habit I have is posting on social media every other day, consistently posting has helped my social media and clientele grow.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Getting where I am today was not easy. I started in high school, around 12 years ago, so fortunately I was living with my parents and didn’t have any bills to pay leaving me all the freedom to build my business and create. My biggest challenge in the beginning is that the internet wasn’t what it is now, so the resources I had to learn photo were very limited. Nowadays I can learn tips through instagram reels. I overcame my challenges by trial and error, setting up my own photoshoots and making mistakes that I learned from. I tell people now that this is the best way to learn, I can tell someone not to do something but until they experience it they won’t understand.
My biggest lesson I wish I would have done in the beginning is to really figure out what I want my business to be, I felt like I was shooting random content in the beginning instead of setting up shoots that fit the kind of content I want to shoot. I finally figured that out later on and now my clientele is all western clients.
Something I really want people to know is that it doesn’t happen overnight, I’ve had people tell me they compare themselves to me or other creatives who have been in this business for awhile.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Omaha, my favorite places to visit are coffee shops. I love to meet up with other creatives and work together. My favorite Coffee shop is Stories Coffee. I love visiting thrift stores and just exploring new local restaurants. Supporting small businesses is my favorite.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The person I want to shout out is my best friend Kevin Kabore, his social media is @kabuckets. He taught me everything I need to know about video. Anytime I need help pricing something, he’s the guy I go to. Everytime I finish hanging out with him or end a phone call with him, I always feel motivated to get to work and be successful.
