We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachael, Lonely Choir and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachael, Lonely Choir, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“The world is a hellish place, and bad writing is destroying the quality of our suffering.” -Tom Waits
This is one of my favorite Tom Waits quotes, it inspires me to be very intentional with the lyrics I write down as I’m creating a song.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been making music all of my life, and in the past year began actually playing in the music scene. I would credit discomfort to my success (the little I do have). I was pretty nervous to play my songs in front of people. I became rigid about attending an open mic once a week, and saying yes to whatever opportunities landed in front of me. This helped me tremendously with my stage fright, and helped me meet a lot of amazing humans along the way.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I really love all of the clubs/bars in Denver. My favorite bars are the loudest ones. There’s something about being in a small space with a lot of strangers, ones that you can’t quite get to know because all you hear is techno music.
Some of the Denver places I love: Don’s Club Tavern, Einsteins, Broadway Roxy, Sonic, Mercury Cafe, Cherry Creek Mall
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There is a group titled Caterpillar Effect Records, they are a group of musicians that meet up & play each others songs. This group really helped me become comfortable playing around others, and gave me the push I needed to begin taking music seriously.
