We had the good fortune of connecting with Racharl Hoch and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Racharl, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Having grown to truly love the experience of creating looks for people that made them feel confident and happy with themselves, I needed to add the business aspect to my journey in order to feel totally fulfilled by it. I’ve grown up with small business owners and entrepreneurs as my mentors, so it was natural for me to take that path. Joining the passion for hair and makeup and client relations with a business plan was an easy step for me.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a hair and makeup professional, I consider my proudest moment being every moment that I make another human feel good about themselves. The art of this industry is undeniable and is often what we talk about as professional artists. However, the feeling of helping another to look their best and feel confident about themselves and the face they put forward is the most important part to me. I have had the pleasure of doing makeup for presidents of the United States, global icons, celebrities, and brides, mothers of brides, and folks simply needing a boost of confidence for a conference or party they’d be speaking at or a photo session. Each experience, no matter how big or small to anyone else, defines why I love what I do. I helped someone get ready to tackle something that mattered for them without worrying about their look or insecurities. I think that this sets me apart, in some ways, from other artists. I also think that this defines why I love what I do and what drives me to continue. I want the story I leave with each client and person that I work with to be that I helped them in some way, to feel happy. That’s all that matters to me.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would absolutely go hiking. You cannot visit Salida Colorado without enjoying the outdoors somehow. This is a beautiful part of the world! I would most likely take them down the Sweeties sand which shop to get lunch and sit down by the spectacular Arkansas river front that we boast so affectionately right in our downtown to eat. Finishing the day with a bike ride, or a visit to the museum for some fascinating mining town history, and cocktails at The Tap House!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have derived inspiration and confidence in my craft from so many people it is hard to pick! My husband, absolutely, has been a huge encouragement and driving force for my becoming a drone pilot in the film industry. My sister, who is the head of the hair and makeup department for CNN nation wide inspired me, trained me, and then assisted me in placing myself as a film and television artist which launched my career essentially. And my father, who is a small business owner and entrepreneur with ambition and courage that is unmatched. He raised me with the fire to strive for more and for my own, and I owe him my successes for that part of my character!
