We had the good fortune of connecting with Rachel Fowler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rachel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process for starting my own business was simple. I saw what I thought was a gap in care for people in recovery from addiction. There seemed to be a lack of support in terms of allowing people to be in charge of their own recovery, and what that looked like for them. Engaging in creative activities and fun in order to achieve long-term recovery from substance use disorder was the plan.

What should our readers know about your business?
My nonprofit recovery support services organization, Recover Simply, is founded on the principle that finding support for addiction recovery can look different for different people. Harm reduction, multiple pathways, creative interests, and fun in recovery are integral to achieving long-term recovery. What sets our organization apart is the development of Recover the Fun group activities that focus on expressive arts recovery support and outings based on participants’ interests. The biggest lesson to date is that collaboration is key. One person or organization overseeing all aspects of treatment and recovery rather than referring to other organizations can make it challenging for the people we are meant to be serving to connect to the community at large.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
In Manitou Springs, Colorado we have lots to explore. We would visit, Pike Peak, Garden of the Gods, Red Rock Open Space, the many art galleries, adorable shops, and the Manitou Art Center. We would sample the water from the 8 different natural springs in town. Drinkers may want to sample a beer made from the springs water at Manitou Brewing Company, where good food is also available, and finally, a soak in the spring water at Sunwater Spa.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
CCAR Recovery Coach Academy trainings affirmed the way I viewed recovery and started me on my path of having my nonprofit recovery support services organization.
