We had the good fortune of connecting with Betsy Fowler and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Betsy, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew that I always wanted to help others. That was the reason I became a nurse. But I felt a certain level of burn out and disconnect in working hospital jobs. Then, I experienced the profound impact of somatic healing that helped me connect with my own inner clarity and wisdom after so many years of living in the fog of high anxiety, indecisiveness, and disconnection. I felt so authentic when guiding and coaching others in this. I knew that I wanted to start my own business to do this impactful work. Thankfully, I had lots of people in my community who were entrepreneurs who helped me see the possibilities for starting my own business. So I thought, why not go for it and live out what I’m passionate about.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Embodied Guidance focuses on empowerment through connection with the many (normally disregarded or unknown) intelligence systems within ourselves and outside support sources. This framework offers a vast world of resources to discover within and outside of ourselves when compared to the normal cultural prioritization of intellect/logic based intelligence only.
I am eager to share about these resources and also thrilled to teach about the history of when we lost cultural importance of these other intelligence systems, such as the intelligence of the intuition, the body, the heart, the nervous system, and the subconscious mind.
I also believe that I offer a unique perspective as a nurse who has experienced the very different approaches to healing, wellness, and empowerment.

In my past, I experienced prioritizing only my intellectual/logical intelligence and living with high anxiety, constant negative looping thought patterns, and intense self-critical thoughts. Now, after experiencing and prioritizing the body and it’s intelligence systems, I feel empowered, more authentically myself, and like a new woman who truly values herself. Through Embodied Guidance, I have great enthusiasm for helping other lovely people find their own unique intelligence and empowerment.

Where I am at in my business today is through lots of trail and error, learning, growing, and ultimately finding the path that has worked best for me. I also have had many mentors and business groups that have been so helpful in me not needing to reinvent the wheel. I still remain in mentorship and groups as I value this as a very vital part of sustaining my business.
Some challenges have been learning to appreciate the process of growth and learning vs. frustration and impatience. I have learned to not rush the process but appreciate each step of the way, knowing that the process is unfolding is its right time.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I love Denver! The best time to come visit is the summer. We would check out lots of live music and shows, because Denver has incredible music scene and because I love dancing! We would go to a show at Red Rocks, then a show at Mission Ballroom, and then a free show at Levitt Pavilion to chill on the grassy hill.

We would check out some local hikes, which would include the Flat Irons in Boulder, Rainbow Lake in Nederland, and Butler Gulch in Georgetown.

When back in Denver, we would get drinks at ESP Hifi for a listening experience and grab dinner at Dimestore Delibar.

We would also check out Meow Wolf for a fun, trippy afternoon excursion.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Innate Path (Broomfield, CO) is the organization that I did my Psychedelic Somatic Therapy training with. The process of the group focuses on your own personal healing experience and the importance of this process in your work with others. The group facilitators hold a container of integrity, support, knowledge, and open-heartedness that is so impressive. This training and group had a huge impact on myself and my work. I am soooooo extremely grateful for this group and the continual support that I receive.
