We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Adams and Macy Pryor and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca Adams and Macy Pryor, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is a core part of the way I operate, specifically with regards to business. I believe its extremely important to believe in yourself and therefore be willing to invest in yourself above all else.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
EMPLOYEE/PROFESSIONAL-REBECCA

The first thing I would always say to people is that success requires a ton of work! And continued belief in what you’re doing is important above all else. I helped to start and grow a Vitamin Company, called SmartyPants, for the last 10 years prior to meeting Macy and being a part of Crossbow. It was an absolute grind, but we believed in what we were doing, felt there was an end goal, and came to it with “there is only plan a” mentality which I think pushes you to find solutions for problems.

I do love working, so for me that does come easy, but there are of course moments where you question yourself and the path. The biggest lesson I have learned is to ignore the noise and just keep doing what you are doing with passion and good execution on good ideas always wins.

ARTIST/CREATIVE-MACY
I have always loved building things and having busy hands. I got my degree in Studio Art with a focus of metal and woodwork. It was not until after I finished school and I tried to enter the “real word” of jobs that I realized that was not the path for me. I could not understand a world in which I was not being creative and building something with my hands everyday- I discovered leather-craft soon after and everything began to make sense. The first four years were brutal. I worked three different jobs on top of taking every custom leather project that came my way. I kept my head down and put in the long days. I believed in the brand that was being created- and my love for sharing the craft.

Our brand is focussed on telling the story of how things are made, and empowering our team of craftswomen with the tools of the trade. We have expanded from leather goods, to hats and apparel, and are excited to keep creating!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Oh man – that is always so tough because Telluride is such an incredible place. I would of course take them either hiking or skiing depending on the season and plan to spend most of our time outdoors. We would also carve out some time to hang out at the store and get a custom hat done, sip some whisky and enjoy that experience.

Probably dinner at my ranch back in Norwood so I can make them ride a horse or milk a cow! Most of my friends visit from the city so it’s fun to get them a little taste of this life. -Rebecca

When we are not working, we spend most of our time outdoors- It is a must to summit a mountain on skis or on foot depending on the season. In the summer we would have to go paddle board the valley floor, or float on Trout Lake. Always a dinner party at Rebecca’s Ranch, and soon….. a cocktail at our new cocktail bar Van Atta (opening July)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I was lucky enough to be part of the building and creation of a CPG company prior to meeting Macy and creating Crossbow. I owe so much to those people, the teams, and the training that gave me. – Rebecca

A shoutout to the local community of Telluride who supported my business when I first opened the retail store/workshop concept in 2018. People loved that everything was made right here in Telluride, and you could watch your products be made as you shopped. -Macy
