We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca (dr. Bec) Mckee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rebecca (Dr. Bec), what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I feel that my good work ethic helped the most. Being raised on a farm I was taught that work (your chores and taking care of the animals) had to come before everything else. So up early and out to feed before getting ready for school. I still have the “early to rise” philosophy and so enjoy that part of my day.
I also feel that learning to do the job well the first time around has many benefits and of course learning how to be a good money manager and making the best decisions for forward movement.
And lastly learning to do what I love rather than what I “have to do” made a huge difference for me. Looking forward to getting out of bed each morning knowing that what I do makes a difference for the animals and people I work with.

What should our readers know about your business?
My business has morphed from BODY SPECIALIST to EQUI-BALANCE. I opened the doors as a personal fitness trainer and manager of a multitude of fitness classes and then began wanting to learn how to “turn on” muscles that weren’t working…thus started learning to work with energy healing and learning different modalities of healing through touch. With these learned skills I began to work with horses and dogs and created a system of “hands on healing” that the animals love. I call my work today biomechanical balancing for horses, people and dogs. I have also worked on cattle.
I get excited about knowing the work makes a difference in how my people and animals feel. I truly believe that they have a better quality of life when I get the chance to work with them.
I also get excited about giving clinics and working with individuals to “pass my work” along. I have always been a teacher and coach first. So the clinics allow me the opportunity to teach what I have learned over the years.
I have always been an “in-home” trainer and bodyworker. I go to the client. I feel that this has made my business successful. I also only do “word of mouth” advertising. This way people have a referral to me from people they know and trust.
I feel that doing this business has had many rewards and challenges over the years. Mostly travel challenges. Getting from one place to another with driving schedules is probably the most challenging. I never know what traffic is going to be like. Also the thing we call “barn-time” is interesting. I very seldom work “on the clock”, listening intuitively to what my people and animals need and completing each session depending on those needs can throw a schedule off. Workdays start early and end rather late. I am always greatful to the flexibility of those I get the opportunity to work with.
I think I want the world to know that the most important thing I have learned over the years is: suiting up and showing up in a timely fashion is worth its weight in gold to the people I get to work with AND delivering a service that they can see and feel makes a difference foe themselves and their animals.
These and having a LOVE for what I do and give to each and every session and clinic is very powerful. I always leave having learned more than when I began a session and certainly from the clinics.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Glenwood Springs so that one is easy. I would probably take them to the Village Smithy for breakfast, then off for a great hike, bike, or skiing. I would then have a soak at the hot springs and a great dinner at the brewery.
If they were here for a week we would have to visit Snowmass for a hike or skiing, Spring Gulch for some cross country skiing, Aspen for some good food and just to say they have been to Aspen, Hiking Hanging Lake, taking a bike ride on the rails to trails system, and hang gliding off of Red Mountain.
Actually the opportunities are so numerous that I would have a hard time choosing. I usually give my guests suggestions and then we PLAY as long and as much as they want!!!’

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Well of course my parents are the first people in line with everything they taught me while I was growing up on the farm.
Secondly all the teachers and coaches I had over the years for giving me the skills I needed to start the business and keep it going for 37 years.
Thirdly to all of the people that have trusted me with their lives and their animals lives. I have learned so much over the years from all of the people I have called “my clients”…..being MUCH more than clients….I call them my “herd” and many, my dearest friends.
