We had the good fortune of connecting with Rebecca Folsom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rebecca, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
When I made the decision to go completely internally Tuning into my own embodied yes or no to make my decisions my life along with my business came into an exquisite alignment…..an alignment that is truly aligned with my soul. There’s some kind of magic in finding my own internal yes and no that somehow goes beyond all external details and is stable in the long run. Somehow my embodied yes and no, feels into things that haven’t happened yet. All I know is if I am true to myself, looking back on my decision, I go “Oh, now I get why that was a yes or no”. I’ve learned to trust it even if it doesn’t make logical sense.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m super excited about my new project called Sanctuary! I have been collaborating with with marginalized communities and non profits who serve them. I have been offering vocal freedom workshops. People share their stories and I write a song the song about it or we CO write a song. The mission is to bring a voices Of marginalize people to the mainstream. So now we are heading into a promotional campaign emotional campaign to get the songs heard through press radio and film. We also have shot a stories behind the songs the song’s documentary that has accompanying music videos.
What sets me apart possibly my tenacious endless Passion about music and creativity. I have lived some fairly dark and challenging life experiences and I’ve come up the other side wanting to bring light to these Dark Places in our society.
I believe there is always a solution. And though problems are difficult solutions are usually straight forward. I believe that every person every act makes a difference and can change the world in a positive way.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them into the mountains. I think Telluride Colorado is a Crown jewel of the rocky mountains. It is super inspiring. I would take them to one of the music or film festivals there. Hike to the waterfalls. Then hang around a campfire playing our own music laughing and enjoying the simple Beauty of heart-to-heart shared company.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
So many! I am a lifelong learner so there are many teachers along the way who have helped me. Also there are so many many music appreciators and fans who have made my job possible.
