We had the good fortune of connecting with Red Mountain Boys and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Red Mountain Boys, what do you want your legacy to be?
Firstly, our songs! They are really the stars in this band.. Any one of us Boys will bring one in a session & it instantly takes a life of its own.

A very close second would have to be the joy that we have (naturally) on stage and off. We genuinely do love each other, and we think the audiences can see that.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We have four lead singers, four harmony singers, and four songwriters…and we’re only four guys!!

Our songwriting and four-part vocal harmonies are really two things that we take great pride in & work at diligently to set us apart from the crowd. Bluegrass music is a genre that relies heavily on tradition. So much at times, that it can seem stagnant and/or repetitive at times, either stylistically or in the lack of originality. We work on honoring these long-held traditions by embracing them with our body of original material. We write songs that harken back to the “old-days” of bluegrass music, while maintaining relevancy and a freshness about ourselves and our music.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
One of the best local come-ups in recent years has been Roll-Up Food Truck down near Jeff’s house, just South of town. Drop what you’re doing and go…NOW.

A hike is always a wonderful way to take in the views that surround our beautiful city, and we have to recommend our namesake hike, the Red Mountain Trail!

A great lunch is always ready from our great friends Front Range BBQ.

Follow lunch up with a stroll around Old Colorado City and take the short drive over to Manitou for a great afternoon. Keep your eyes peeled for a Red Mountain Boy sighting, as Jon is a proud Manitoid.

For a really special evening head to Stargazers Theatre! You’ve never experienced anything like live music under the dome! Especially with Nick Holden running the soundboard! He is THE MAN!!!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
As a group Red Mountain Boys owe a mountain of gratitude to John Hooton at Stargazers Theatre. He was really the first person in the local scene that gave us a shot and the opportunity to shine. We have such a special connection with John, Cindy, & the entire staff at Stargazers.

Of course, we are absolutely NOTHING without our fanbase. We have the greatest amount of support directly given to us every single night we take the stage!

Alan Begley (Guitar) would like to recognize Bill Begley and Austin Doten for their unwavering support through this wild ride!

Lewis Mock (banjo) has been supported throughout his long musical career by his wife, Jeri, and children.

Jon Murphy (bass) takes the time to thank his father, Bud Murphy, his sister, Molly Rose English, & his girlfriend Stacie Wilssens..

Jeff Daugherty (mandolin) thanks his wife, Lt Col Sydney Todorov, and his mandolin teacher, mentor, and friend Mr Bobby Osborne.
