We had the good fortune of connecting with Reed Letson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Reed, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
When working for someone else, you don’t get to have a lot of input in how the process works. You are given rules on how to operate even though you know there is a better way to go about it. My vision of opening up my own Mortgage Broker company in Colorado Springs, CO was to give a different customer experience. I wanted every client to feel like they were not just a number, but that we truly cared about their family.
Buying a home is one of the biggest investments that people make and I wanted to guide them through that journey. We implement video in every stage of the home buying experience because we truly want our clients to walk into the home buying process and know what to expect. The best clients are the most educated about the process.
My philosophy is to give as much education and value without expecting anything in return. If you implement these items in your business, the rest will take care of itself.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started Elevation Mortgage in April 2018 with a vision of treating all of my clients the same. I think the one thing that sets myself apart from everyone else is how we treat our clients. There are many choices when choosing a mortgage company but people come to us because they know they are going to get the 5 Star service they deserve.
My first goal is to make sure the client is a good fit for my business model. We are looking for clients that want the ultimate home buying experience. From the initial consultation to closing day, we make sure they understand every step and stage along the process. We do this through our online Renter to Homeowner course. This is our proprietary course that takes the client through the customer journey cycle from being a renter to getting the keys to their new home.
While this was not easy to develop our process and systems, we knew in the long run that it would pay off for our clients.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I absolutely love Colorado Springs! My wife and I moved here in 2017 and we couldn’t be happier. With the abundance of hiking trails around the area, some of our favorites places to wonder around are Red Rock Canyon Open Space, Stratton Open Space, and Pulpit Rock Park.
Over the last several years, Colorado Springs has seen a surge in the quality of restaurants available. Some of our favorite restaurants are Red Gravy, Bonny and Read, and The Rabbit Hole.
If you are going to live or visit Colorado Springs, you have to try out the many local breweries we have to offer. Goat Patch, Red Leg, Metric Brewing, Field House Beerworks are some of our favorites. However, we do brew our own beer at home and love sharing it with friends and family.
While these are some of our favorite things to do, there is so much more to explore in Colorado Springs.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Without my team, my success would not be possible. I rely heavily on my team members but that also includes my referral partners. I have built trust with several industry professionals to include Realtors, Financial Advisors, Attorneys, Insurance Agents, Home Inspectors, just to name a few. We rely on each other to keep the process moving in an efficient manner. Secondly, my clients are a huge part of my success as well. Every client that I help, I always take away a lesson or something that I can do better. We are not perfect but one thing that i do is try to learn from everyone that I encounter.
Lastly, the Association of Independent Mortgage Experts (AIME) is also a huge contribution to my success. We have just shy of 13,000 Facebook members in our group and we all share success with one another. I take in all of the lessons that other Mortgage Brokers have learned but I also share some of my wins and losses with the group. By doing this, we all benefit from one another. Its less about being competitors with one another and its more about winning as a whole.
