We had the good fortune of connecting with Reggie Carter and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reggie, what inspires you?
I am truly inspired by business owners that I see or read about. It takes a great deal of courage to take your thoughts and turn them into reality. It is so easy to live in your comfort zone and not draw outside of the lines. Stepping out of your boundaries and taking calculated risk is a place where you find your gifts. It puts you in a state of vulnerability and for most people, that feeling is something they are not comfortable with. I get it because I was once there. To live out your dreams has an addictive freedom component that is irreversible once you taste it. This is the reason I am inspired by people whose success started with a thought and a piece of scratch paper. It is the true definition, you can do anything you put your mind to.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am the owner of a soft baked dog treat company named Must be Ruff. I think one of the things that set us apart is the authenticity of always being ourselves. There is something magical about being yourself, it has a tendency to draw people to you. I am a firm believer that if you want to be the best, you have to put serious work in. Nothing great comes easy and the sooner a person can learn what that actually means, the better off they will be. Hard Work and prayer are two things that keep me grounded at all times. We are able to do so many great things in our community. That is one of the benefits of not trying to get too big too fast, you are able to handle each relationship delicately and build them to last. Building solid relationships is one of the most important lessons I have learned along my travels. Just recently I started a non-profit named The MBR Foundation. Our mission is to help teach kids the benefits of having compassion for animals through education. Visit https://givebutter.com/mustberuff to learn more!

Any places to eat or things to do that you c
an share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?

While visiting Minnesota, the Mall of America is a must go! You could easily spend the entire day there. Not far from the MOA is Matt’s Bar, home of the best Juicy Lucy in the country. 56 Brewing has amazing local craft beer, definitely one of our favorite spots to grab a cold one! We are also home to some great hiking trails, Afton State Park is beautiful in the fall. Even though it gets really cold there are many winter activities. Snow tubing at Elm Creek Park Reserve is one of the things my family enjoys the most.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are many people who have played major roles in our success. The small business community in the Twin Cities is super supportive, there is no way we could have done it without them. I would have to say my wife Susan has been very supportive along this journey. Her background in business and economics is a major piece to our success puzzle. She has a different perspective and that is something you’ll always need to grow. I am thankful to have her in my life.
